Never Know

I don't agree with Martin Luther King III on the voting habits of his father. He was only ten years old when his father died. I'm sure he wasn't paying much attention to how his father voted then. I'm more inclined to believe his older cousin Alveeda King. When she says MLK was a Republican like his father and her grandfather. She was actually around and involved in the demonstrations her uncle organized.

But I don't agree with the way his King's legacy is being exploited in this manner. Charlotte Bergman is a Tea party candidate. More in the vein of a Herman Cain. I would like to see her do something in the community other than run for congress. She is no more prepared for the office than she was the last time she ran. With all the changes that have taken place in the 9th district in the last two years. She has been virtually silent. We should have heard her name in something before now.

I hope this isn't just another way to try and keep the dream alive. I don't want this to end up being like Joe Louis boxing in circus sideshows just for the money. The erecting of the national monument sort of swept the legs from beneath all the other projects in his honor. The " Center for Social Change" was struggling anyway. This question about MLK's party affiliation could have best been answered by his widow Coretta Scott King. But after she endorsed same-sex marriage, her opinions weren't sought or trusted much as representative of her late husband anymore. That being the case. I guess we'll never really know. Does it even matter?

Battle Weary

The president must be enjoying the brutality of these debates for the Republican nomination. By the time the winner faces him, there won't be much left for Democrats to argue with. Newt Gingrich has set out on a path to expose Mitt Romney that's going to prove to be a double edged sword. That may be good for his campaign temporarily, but bad for the nominee overall. The opposing side and the voters are listening. This election will be decided by Independents.

Newt Gingrich is not the answer to conservative woes. He has too much baggage already. Along with the trouble with his ex-wife, there's the issue of his conversion. In the last two years he has become Catholic. Just like Mitt Romney already, evangelicals won't vote for him. He is showing Romney up for his indecisiveness. Yet he calls it a mere change in policy when he does it himself. Some of the same policies he is running against now. He supported and even lobbied for in the past. The winner will be battle weary

A True Leader

County Mayor Mark Luttrell has been noticeably quiet during this entire merger process. Though he plays a pivotal role in all of this. I am impressed with how he finally responded to the media on the subject. The mayor made a bold an unpopular move. One that obviously wasn't politically motivated because he angered some of his base supporters. He spoke out despite what would have easily been a cop out, in favor of what he feels is right for the entire Shelby county. That's signs of a true leader.

Some Republicans in this city and even state read the writing on the wall, and recognize the benefits of a unified city. Memphis is home to one of the top ten manufacturing plants (Carrier)in the country. With the president's initiative to promote jobs loss overseas. This is just the beginning. Those Republicans like Democrats are focused on passage of their joint legislative agenda, which focuses on economic development, jobs, public safety and removing blight from neighborhoods. Beat The Odds

I was saddened but not not surprised by the news of Seal and Hedi Klum getting a divorce. Seal is probably wanting to work things out. Since he fully committed by adopting her child from a previous relationship. But I see Heidi was the one who filed. Makes you wonder if it was all just a show. Even though the marriage produced three lovely children. Whenever I saw the two of them together it was always perplexing. You couldn't help but wonder what did she see in him? Obviously, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Was this just a marriage of convenience? Something just to keep them in the news. Everywhere they went it was a paparazzi opportunity. Both their careers have been enhanced by their marriage to each other. Seal has some pretty good songs,but none that are classics or anything like that. Heidi Klum is beautiful, but she is still an aging model. No matter how hot they are, they only have the spotlight for so long. For almost seven years they beat the odds. Now that their relationship is over. I don't expect we'll be hearing much from them.

This season is going to be decided by the teams who sign the most underrated players for the least amount of money. Not the players who signed those big contracta for millions of dollars and big shoe deals. It will be the Tracy McGradys and Mareese Speights who make the difference in the winners and losers this year. Look at the Portland Trailblazers and big Kurt Thomas. Even though these players are in their twilight years or on the brink of effectiveness. They don't have huge contracts.

Injuries won't allow the Grizzlies to keep last years team in tact. If we ever get everybody healthy we'll be hard to beat. In the meantime the role players have to come through. We need to keep O.J. Mayo, even if we have to do some juggling. Shane Battier is doing alright for himself elsewhere. Playing for the Miami Heat for $3M is a sweet deal for a mid level player. . Rudy Vasquez was a regrettable loss. But Jeremy Pargo was a steal for the minimum. Hamed Haddidi and Sam Young didn't break the bank. I am most excited about the acquisition of Mareese Speight. He is like a Marc Gasol who plays in the paint.

Changing The Game

This is not so unusual as far as pardons go . All governors that have the power to pardon criminals give questionable pardons before they leave office. I think the public wants to know what criteria did Haley Barbour use to give more than 200 before he left office? I could see if this was the first time it happened, but it isn't. In this case I think certain cases of notoriety caught the public eye. That made this case attract national media attention that it otherwise wouldn't have gotten. Namely the two sisters convicted to life sentences for their part in a Pizza Hut deliveryman robbery.

I think there is a hidden agenda here. This is totally out of character for a time tested and true, staunch Republican. The party's platform is generally the opposite. They support truth in sentencing, holding criminals accountable for their crimes. In case you hadn't noticed. The demographics in the state of Mississippi is changing at a rapid pace. A black may soon reside in the governor's mansion. In the last race the nominated Democratic candidate was black. They don't trust blacks and liberals to conduct business as usual.

The discussion has already started to reduce the scope of the governor's power. Republicans for the most part are keeping quiet. I think they recognize there is a method to this madness. Black liberals especially, better be careful what they're asking for. There will always be a strong Republican influence in Mississippi politics. What is going to happen when approval is needed to do something that's been going on for fifty years. Haley Barbour is changing the game.

Even though he may have been one of the most qualified people in the race, his campaign never caught fire. In my opinion he was second string on a losing team. As I have said many times before. Most Jewish voters are Democrats by default. All they require is that their candidate support Israel unconditionally. They support the entitlement programs because they end up with most of the money in the end anyway. They own the grocery stores and most of the places liberals live and shop. Even though they vote for Democrats, their needs are served by Republicans as well. Why do you think Congressman Cohen is so worried about the minority of his constituents? Because they control the majority of the money. I wonder how much they collect on Sunday? the proposed redistricting plan he should win his district hands down. I went to the 9th district against my wishes. I am one of the few new voters in this acquisition that won't vote for him. Most blacks in Memphis vote for him overwhelmingly. Renaming buildings and attending funerals is enough to keep their loyalty at the polls.

Don't believe the hype. Steve Cohen isn't as concerned about the Jewish vote as he is their influence on laws and legislation. Translation: their money, power and respect. They make up the lions share of lawyers and judges. They set this country's pace. Blacks vote for Cohen, but they don't make their voice heard with campaign contributions. If he loses his Jewish constituents he won't have any juice on Capitol hill. His rise in ranking has little to do with any successes he has had while in office. Rather his associations and the fact that he is white. He once said "he voted like a black woman". If that was really the case. He should know what goes around comes around. Just like he uses the vulnerability of blacks to keep his seat. He shouldn't be surprised at another white man doing it to a so-called black woman too. His words have come back to haunt him

If you earn $34,800 a yr,, according to CNN you are in the top 1% of moneymakers in the entire world. For a better perspective, that includes those who only earn $100's annually. Stephen Hawking is a testament to God's unmerited grace. In spite of his disbelief, he has been surviving beyond medical expectations for over fifty years. I heard Pastor Keith Norman of First Baptist Broad preach a rousing sermon titled "Grace Is Enough". He used Denver Bronco's quarterback Tim Tebow's recent success to make his point. But I related it to Hawking's recent 77th birthday. Grace allows you to accomplish things you shouldn't be able to with what you have to work with. This man has become an academic celebrity and he can't even talk. With Gods help all things are possible. As smart as Mr. Hawking is, looks like he would heal himself. He must wonder everyday, who sustains him?

We have made the Tiger players local celebrities, and it's gone to their heads. First it was Will Barton focusing on going to the NBA. But his twenty point performances don't show up for the big games like Georgetown and Murray St. I think he is a good four year player that will be at his best as a senior. He is no Derrick Rose or Tyreke Evans. School was holding them back.

Then Farrakahn Hall finally got to play. He has done a fair job on at best a mediocre team. I foresaw a lack of focus in his first live interview. He was more concerned with his image than his play on the court. His arrival didn't have the impact of a Tracy McGrady. Though far better than the much anticipated Stan Simpson. He is and never was the key to the teams success.

Now Joe Jackson is thinking maybe he could market his skills somewhere else. I think he got a wakeup call real quick. You haven't locked down a solid spot on this team yet. Learn a lesson from your teamate. In a transfer all you lose is momentum. It would be a shame to end up riding the pine. Instead of being drana kings . Shut up andd play.

The Iuwa caucus may be the big story for the Republicans this go round. Never in history has there been such a close contest. It was decided by 8 votes.(30,015-30,007) I like what Rick Santorium is saying, but it's nothing new. It's kind of like the party is using him as a lsst resort. All the candidates have been the frontrunner except Michelle Bachnanm and she dropped out after the Iowa caucus. She read the writing on the wall. Republicans aren't going to elect a woman. Just like the mainstream isn't going to elect a Mormon.

I have to see how Rick Santorium is going to perform with the target on his back. As someone who rooted for him early on, I don't know yet. He has slid through the debates pretty much untouched. In the beginning no one paid him any attention. He was always the one complaining about not getting equal time during the debates. Though I understood what he meant. The first time he had the media's ear he stuck his foot in his mouth. He made a comment about blacks that even I thought was over the top. Mitt Romney is still the heir apparent to the Republican nominations throne. I think the stage is set for 2012. Mitt Romney is like Moses. But Rick Santorium might make a good Joshua.

Demetria Hogan is in a unique position as far as public opinion goes. White citizens view her as just another black thugette with a good paying city job. Blacks especially women are apathetic. They don't understand all this fuss about a dog. Heaven forbid their man gets to involved, they get jealous. If the evidence supported the theory of her being guilty. I wouldn't hesitate to call for her head. But I don't want to get someone in trouble just to make a point. That or be part of this public lynching because I sat by and didn't say anything. I know from experience whites and some blacks have no problem doing this.

Six months later why hasn't this woman been charged with a crime? Are they now waiting on Kapone to die? Now we're getting updates on the dog's health. She was fired from her job to appease the public and now they've found the dog. Now they say she took it there. Bu t the anonymous tipsters don't want the reward. What will it take to clear her name?

I saw this story on CNBC and felt compelled to put it on my blog. I see a smaller scale of this same thing happening everyday and wonder when will people figure it out. They seem to fall for a new scam everyday. I just tell those who care to ask,. Just because they're not smooth and polished like John Calipari, and oftentimes look like marks themselves. Don't take for granted the damage these crooks can do to unsuspecting sheep. Harold Beuhler was well on his way to setting this city back forty years. He was building the new version of the projects on every vacant lot in town . Him and his bobble headed family had a grip on this city with their country commercials. It doesn't take as many people as you think. Al Parrish stole $90M from 600 people that he knew who trusted him. This is a prime example of what happens when people follow a man blindly. By the time they start to ask questions. It's too late to do anything. The damage is done. Somebody funny looking is singing.

The biggest mistake this man made was going to Thaddeus Matthews instead of the authorities. His listeners haven't learned yet that he is most important in his own eyes. Those teenage girls are back at home where they belong and never should have left. Wendolyn Lee is in jail with $100,000 bond and can't get out. Something about that is not right. The man would've only been charged with two misdemeeanors at most until he got on the phone with Thaddeus and implicated himself for tampering with evidence. He couldnt have gotten locked up at a worse time. The state legislature is focuing on childhood prostitution and sexual explotation next month. Thanks to Thaddeus and his followers. Last I heard the man was traffiking young girls and had fourteen of them across state lines in Southaven Miss.

Wendolyn Lee isn't totally innocent here. This is not his first rodeo. Someboody else introduced the girls to him. Thaddeus peeped out his game and got jealous. He is what I call a "Hardship Hustler." If you get caught between a rock and a hard place. He is the hard place. His concern wasn't solely for the girls alone. He wanted custody so he could get their checks. He wasn't helping them out of the goodness of his heart. Once he found out the mother was slow and the daughters were rebelling. He thought he had an opening to take over. Misdirected as he was he was only trying to help. He got played by all involved.

I am all for the city moving forward but not at the expense of squeezing the average citizen out. With all these capital improvement projects the city is backing. Soon you won't be able to afford to pay property taxes on a shack in Memphis. In the last two weeks as many major decisions by the council have catered to a minority group. First they turned Overton Park over to a conservancy, Now they've voted to spend $16.5M on a water retention system in Overton Square so Henry Loeb can meet his deadline. Which also includes building another indoor parking gararge on the site.

The suburbanites are moving back into this city. I have no problem with that, but I've been here all the time. Isn't my loyalty worth anything? This whole sales pitch about an entertainment district is just a sham to get taxpayer money. A black theatre offering ethnic entertainment will never materialize. An annual performance of "Porgy and Bess" and maybe " Dreamgirls" is close as we will get. The city is building a new Beale Street with no Overton Square Developement Corp . No input from the majority. Just an appointed board representing special interests groups. The fix was in from the start. All the things they have been unable to agree with in the past year. and all of a sudden the pass this at the last minute. In case no one noticed they still haven't worked that pension deal out. My new name for this is "Overturn Square."

This latest story shows just how out of touch the GOP is with the mainstream. The first lady's hips are an asset, not a negative like some are trying to say. The days of big bosoms and flat behinds are over. Even Dolly Parton got a breast reduction. You can no longer convince white women that ample buttocks aren't desirable because they don't naturally have them. They have found that there is power in the booty. That is the new trend in plastic surgery. Every since Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez got rich. It's power is no longer a secret.

My only problem with the first lady is her focus. The fight on obesity really doesn't need her help. People spent $46B on some type of diet last year. Her influence could be better used somewhere else. If the congressman wanted to hurt her feelings. He would have to turn that comment around to make it offensive. Tell her she has a big stomach and a flat behind. Now that's an insult. Telling her that her butt is big is a compliment.

I Was Right

I suspect I was right all the time about Kapone being missing. How much is the reward now and was it still collected? Now they're questioning the people where the dog was found. Like they are going to reveal some underworld dog smuggling ring. Supposedly after Shelby county crimestoppers received an anonymous tip. Kapone has suddenly been found. This had to be the most popular Pitt Bull in the Triun-State area. After all the hype and media attention has died down surrounding his disappearance. What made him show up unexpected in Senatobia Miss. six months later? He was never really missing.

Demetria Hogan always maintained she only picked up one dog. The surveillance cameras only saw one when she arrived at the shelter..Her employers and the public took the word of the Shoups over hers. She was taken to trial and fired from her job on pure speculation. I wish I could see the faces of all those people who convicted her without proof. In hindsight would they at least admit they jumped to conclusions. This is probably the only place I'll get credit for my persistence of her innocence. But some will say that doesn't let her off the hook. Looks like I was right.

I like Will Barton and his energy but I am a realist too. He is not a Moses by a long shot, he won't get us to the promised land. It's going to take him and four more like him on a good night. He is a condiments type player and Memphis needs the meat. It doesn't matter if you score 100 pts. if your opponent scores 110. That's what's been happening lately. Will Barton has been on fire by himself. Last game him and Joe Jackson were the majority of the teams offence. Except for a few burners by Crawford. The rest of the team just dressed out.

I'm going to pull for Will in spite of what his high numbers mean for the team. I have him figured out now. If you want to stop him you have to run the whole game. The other teams are just going to let him score and stop everybody else or vice versa. He weighs 175lbs., fully dressed right out of the shower on a 6'6 frame. He is like a Greyhound running after a rabbit. The rest of the team are like Irish setters looking for quail. They need to do more running and less setting. We know where the birds are. They're flying in the rim. In case Will Barton is thinking of going hardship. Don't hire an agent yet.

Get Excited

If Stan Simpson was Glen Cyphiens last contribution to the Tiger basketball program. He was being stingy. It was time for him to leave the school. Josh pastner is taking it to a new level hopefully. I remember all the hype surrounding the signing of Stan Simpson last year. He was supposed to be the missing link. Coach Cyphien was the one who got all the credit. Either this was a setup or a testament to his shortcomings. I think it was the latter. His main job was to recruit a big man, and obviously he didn't deliver.

Last night I watched him play. Stan Simpson is a division 11 level player at best. He doesn't move like Gorgui Dieng and Chane Behenan. He plays on brakes. Though Simpson is 6'10 /235. Just like we were with Will Coleman last year. We don't have a big man again. And Coleman seems to be better than Simpson. You won't find a good big man in JC because of his grades. Their skills aren't up to par. This guy runs flat footed and seems content sitting on the bench as a junior. The coach had to beg him to get excited on national television. I hope he's getting a good education. His days on the court are numbered.

Based on this picture it doesn't look like Greg Davis, the embattled mayor of Southaven was divorced and dealing with his latest revelation back then. At least it doesn't look like he told his wifeHe took this picture with his wife and kids back in 2008 when he ran for congress. That wasn't very long ago. Three years to be exact. With the atmosphere for homosexuals right now. Whether it be consensual or not. If he came out with little to no prodding by the media. You can bet there is more we don't know about that he is hiding. Was or is this the new Barney Frank? The investigation only went back three years. He has been in office fourteen.

I don't have a dog in the fight other than justification for prior statements I've made. I have always maintained that Desoto County was just a suburb turned city feeding off the flight from Memphis. My complaints and insight are like spitting in the wind though. Most people that hear me are apathetic or invested. They've bought homes or like the shows at the Desoto Civic Center.. They're using the grease. In addition to the exorbitant salary this man was receiving. He was balling with the taxpayers money. Now we know what all those sales trips were for. How much has really been spent on his lifestyle over the years?

Hope I'm Wrong

Don't expect a major turnaround in the team with the arrival of Ferrokahn Hall. It's not his fault. He just isn't what the team needs right now. The Tigers need a 6'10 big man with some weight. One who can get the ball in the paint and turn around and shoot. It would really be nice if they could hit free throws too. He probably wouldn't stay but a year or two. But that would get them rolling.

I listened to a couple of Hall's interviews. He is more concerned with hanging out at Chingy's and going down on Beale than he is getting rebounds. He is worried about his image and he hadn't played a game yet. The reason I say that. He seems to be real thin. His body hasn't changed one bit in almost a year that he has been ineligible. Though he has had use of a new weight room and strength coach at his disposal. I hope I'm wrong.

I was beginning to wonder if I was crazy or something. But wasn't this the former governor of New Jersey on trial? I ran a goggle search and found out I was right. Not only that, he was a Senator as well. Jon Corzine is one of the most powerful people in that state of New Jersey. And a lot of others as well. This official is embedded in the unions and well connected in the banks. In addition to being former head of Goldman &Sachs. He is the former incumbent who lost to Gov. Christie in the midst of claims of corruption. In a state with a history and reputation where the underworld has a major influence. The Regular Joes just banded together and voted him out. I read two days worth of articles concerning his latest troubles and it was never mentioned once. I found it strange no one was connecting the dots.

Then it dawned on me. These pondents don't want to come up missing or find a horse head in their beds. Jon Corzine's whole demeanor is starting to reveal itself. Now I understand his humor. How can you not know what happened to $1.4B under your watch? He is standing in front of the senate denying any involvement. What can you do? This guy is in the Mafia or Mob. Nobody with a loud voice making major money will address this. Heraldo Rivera was our last example. Let someone else take on that fight. No one could pull off crimes of this magnitude by themselves. You never know who is involved. They have to be surrounded with people just like them. This reminds me of the movie "Goodfellows". I think the Grizzlies should have called Marc Gasol's bluff. He never produced an offer sheet from another team. So we don't know what his options were.I don't think the other teams were going to pay him that much had he gone somewhere else. Marc Gasol is soft and lacks toughness. Tiger fans are already watering at the mouth. They just gave this guy $900,000 a year and he has never coached a game. I haven't heard anyone complain about his lack of experience. I saw Gale Jones Carson on GMM dancing with the Memphis Steppers this morning. I wish I could post a full length picture of her. It would better prove my point. Herman Cain should have already done what he is doing now. I think deep down inside even his supporters know he is guilty. His wife stood by him in the face of the harassment charges. At first I was ready to say he hadn't been given a fair chance to turn the program around. Then I thought about it, and that might have been the plan all the time. If he ends up somewhere as a recruiting cordinator making six figures, and Memphis ends up hiring a high profile coach to take his place. I'll have suspicions of history repeating itself. He was used like Tic Price to clear the path for what's to come. After such a disappointing run the fans have lowered expectations. They're ready to break open the bank to get a winner.

I'm beginning to think there really is a glass ceiling in college coaching for minorities. When you look at their win/loss records you can kind of see why. Even at HBCs black coaches aren't exclusive.. Football fans and players alike seem to be more comfortable with a white head coach. I believe next year we would have seen a marked improvement in the Memphis program anyway. If that had happened, it would have created a problem. That would explain him only being given two years to turn it around. To win was never the plan.

This could have been done several weeks ago if the players had thought this through. They followed the lead of union officials and ended up without a job. You can't negotiate when the opposition (owners) holds all the cards being played. I figured the players were going to have to strike a deal before long. That standing by each other wasn't going to last another month. Some of them have already signed binding deals in other leagues and they haven't missed six months yet. They need the money already.

If you notice most of the players in the union are black. All of the players involved in the lockout aren't though. A significant factor in the big picture. There are more Tony Allens and Shannon Browns than Zach Randolphs and Kobe Bryants. After a career in basketball some of them will still have to get a job. I personally think all this talk of illicit dog fighting rings in Memphis is overblown. I agree there might be some, but not nearly to the degree some people would have you think. Police find two treadmills in a backyard in North Memphis and they're off and running. Now we have a full fledged ring. It just makes future bust look bigger. Just like every meth head they catch with a lab in his car The subject gets people excited and ready to take a stand. The public seems to be immune to crime except animal abuse and child molestation. Everything else goes pretty much unnoticed. This will get them talking.

The animal shelter is big business. From the medications to the food. The city spends millions of dollars annually. You best believe there are those chomping at the bits for some of those contracts. Not surprisingly the Rotary Club's audit came out blaming many of the problems at the MAS on it's connections to this illegal sport. According to them we're running a publicly funded slaughterhouse in so many words. With those dreadful Second Chance employees being the brokers over the whole thing. They are all being used as scapegoats to acquire privatization of the shelter.

Along with the dogs being euthanized on a daily basis and the legitimate adoptions. This alleged activity would have to be practiced out in the open. The shelter has 120 volunteers plus paid employees. They didn't see anything? There was no need to be evaluated by an outside source. Those indictments to identify those involved will never happen. Just like the reappearance of Kapone. .

I have been having this same discussion all week long with my friend who is a dedicated worker in the Lee Harris campaign. You can argue back and forth with people all you want. Some of them are still going to vote for Kemba Ford just because she is good looking. It must be on the mind of more than just me. Wendi Thomas made it the topic of her weekend column. I have to look back and see how proactive Wendi has been in previous elections or is this personal. The article has undertones of jealousy even though it was pretty accurate overall.

Talk about stirring the pot just in time for the upcoming special election this Thursday. I was all prepared to agree with Wendi's assesment then I thought again. This package is simply too neat. Why is Wendi Thomas being so critical of Ms. Ford anyway? This is one of those situations where she should have remained neutral. Makes you have second thoughts about Lee Harris. There goes that question mark again. Kemba is the epitome of what Wendi usually advocates for in her articles. Why is she suddenly changing teams? It's obvious Lee Harris is being supported by those who Ms. Thomas usually disagree with.

This could be a case of reverse psychology. Three card molly if you must. Where Wendi wins no matter who loses. An endorsement from Wendi Thomas could work either way. This might lose as many votes as it gains depending on who you're talking to. In a race that might be decided by a few votes. This article might make the difference in the outcome. Kemba Ford could very well win. Even though she hasn't spent any money. But based on this article Wendi isn't concerned about future lines of communication. Unless of course this was part of the plan.

After watching a couple of episodes of "Keeping up with the Kardashians." I ended up with a different outlook on the quick dissolution of the marriage. I don't think it was fake. The whole thing just happened too fast. Kim was trying to start anew with a white bread, star struck, young athlete. One who didn't know about or wasn't deterred by her relationship with Ray J or her ex-husband. Kris didn't know she had even been married. At first he thought an angel had fallen from the sky. Reggie Bush is and was always the best fit for her. His career and level of success compliments her lifestyle perfectly. He just refuses to put her in the front seat and ask her to be his wife. The infamous video with her and Ray J stands in the way of his and her happiness.

It's going to take a real secure, opportunist with a degree of success in his own right, to feel comfortable in Kim Kardashian's shadow. For the time being, the whole world wants to look at her and everything she does. He can't hide her away at the house.. Right now Kris Humphrey doesn't even have a contract. She needs a husband like Ice T or Hank Baskett. Both men relish in their woman's exhibitionism. Kris Humphries couldn't carry it out beyond being a player in the NBA. Not even a proven one at that. Luckily for her he played in a slow market. I'm not so sure he has ever really had a real girlfriend. At least not like Draya or Evelyn on Basketball Wives. Kim gave him some and blew his mind. He was mesmerized by the sex. Obviously she was too, and thought that was enough. He did the honorable thing and proposed after six months. Foolishly she accepted without thinking it through. Now they have one of the shortest most expensive marriages ever. The marriage was shorter than the engagement.

I am not at all surprised that Mayor Greg Davis got caught with his hand in the cookie jar to the tune of $170,000. What's more he isn't stepping down after getting caught. Why be accountable to a system that allowed you to get away with this type oversight to begin with? Just stay where you are and devise another way to steal the money. Better check out the Board of Alderman as well. They signed off on these bills in question. His job as mayor has been a ripoff to Southhaven citizens for quite some time. They were so busy looking back and pointing their fingers at Memphis. They didn't realize they were getting taken in the fastest growing area in the country.

This is the handiwork of the RNC not the Democrats. In spite of him being the front runner for the Republicans at this point. The kingmaker Karl Rove didn't give their prize fighter a break. He helped throw him under the bus. The party bigwigs have invested too much money in Rick Perry and Mitt Romney. To a lesser extent even Michelle Bachman. They had to find a reason not to give Herman Cain any money. The candidate leading in the polls coming in last in campaign contributions was not a good look.  There has always been this underlying group of Republicans that want anybody in the White house but President Obama and Herman Cain.

I better hurry up and say this before it's old news. Herman Cain had his biggest fundraising day to date yesterday. But they haven't dropped the biggest bomb yet. Have you noticed the identity of neither of the women has been revealed? I suppose the non-disclosure provision in the settlement covered that at first. After comments made by Cain himself, that may no longer be the case. If the claims of sexual harassment alone don't derail Cain's campaign. The fact that the victims are precious white females will. If the victims turned out to be jazzy black women it won't have the same effect. It would be like a modern day Anita Hill scandal. Supporters would claim he didn't do it and he was falsely accused. Let's see what the Tea party members say when they find out it was Becky. The thought of the flirty old black man salivating over  little white women won't go over to well.

There is more to this than meets the eye. This fills a much needed void in local talk radio for people like myself, that has arose with recent Clearchannel layoffs. The impact of which pretty much went unnoticed until it reached WDIA. It started a couple of months ago with Andrew Clarksenior. I didn't pay attention then, but the writing was on the wall. At least he didn't show up for work one day and discover he didn't have a job. While Thaddeus Matthews is taking credit for something he had nothing to do with. He best be keeping watch of the behind the scenes workings of his former business associate George Flinn. He is the Edmund Ford for his competition. Unless of course they're still working together. Which would explain some things.

Me and my friend were talking and we couldn't figure it out. Unless Mark Skoda is independently wealthy or has supporters with deep pockets. How is he pulling this off? In spite of only being marginally charismatic and not having an established following. Mark Skoda is broadcasting four hours a day, five days a week and a couple of hours on the weekend. He is even nationally syndicated. With little to no advertisers. How is this possible? This has to cost a fortune.

Mark Skoda used the Tea party to get his idea off the ground. He has since distanced himself from it's most extreme positions. Was this politically motivated or due to fundamental differences? Based on his latest actions and rebuke of other key Tea party members. I'm not so sure he isn't just another opportunist trying to keep a job (which I have no problem with).There are only so many people you can reach openly espousing your far right views. I know he is skilled at writing a resume. I will be listening closely to see if the change is genuine. Not just game.

A Good Man

Out of all the cutbacks at WDIA, Jeff Lee's dismissal is the one I hate the most. Bobby Ojay is partially right when he claims no responsibility for the latest firing. The whole truth is when he didn't keep the night show going after Janis Fullilove left, he started something he can no longer control. Jeff Lee had made about a 160* turn from when he first got the job. He had gotten so much better recently. Bobby Ojay incubates cocky behavior among the other personalities. So once the smoke clears he is the one left standing. When Jeff first came his arrogance was sickening. Now it was just annoying at times.

Greg was only working a couple of hours a day, so he can find another hustle to take it's place. Greg leads a pretty laid back existence anyway. Give him enough to pay his rent and keep him a ride and he'll be straight. He doesn't have a big mortgage and car notes to pay like Jeff. So this lay-off is not as devastating for him. Yvette, I'm not so worried about. I think she was in need of a wake up call anyway. She is over thirty and not a Jennifer Lopez either. She needs to get married and have a baby before it's too late. If this hadn't happened. She would've set there in the studio kissing up to Bobby and having the listeners swell her head for the next ten years. Holding on hopng for another chance like Eileen stumbled upon. Heaven knows she paid her dues. She brown nosed for years. Smelling what Bobby Ojay had for breakfast five days a week. It paid off with her getting the PD job at the other station. Something tells me Aisha Raison wasn't completely shocked. Her and Jeff are probably the only two that can draw unemployment. She left the notoriety of the airwaves for a full time job long ago. Someone said she got married.

Even though it happens all the time. I don't like saying "I told you so." I told Jeff when he first came on board at WDIA. He should be thankful for his callers and listeners and he would regret talking so smart to them. His first humbling experience was the death of Jay Michael Davis. He had to grow up real fast after that. He didn't have Jay Michael to stand behind anymore. Before he could get over that Steve Ladd, Jay's replacement had died. That was the turning point in his career at WDIA. I think he grew tired of his deceased partners being more popular than him. A visible change had taken place. He had finally won me over. I could tell he was trying real hard. But he still had a ways to go. Just last week he showed signs of his old ways. At his core he is a good man though. I hope he lands somewhere in the city.

The civil rights movement has officially become a tourist attraction. It was given a proper ceremony with all the uninspiring speeches and the whole nine yards. The dedication of the Martin Luther King statue marked the end of an era. By putting the monument in Washington D.C., we know it will at least be maintained. It wasn't built in the heart of the ghetto. Like the "Center for Social Change" in Atlanta, which is struggling to stay open. Best of all. They don't have to deal with the feuding children. The second son Dexter King wasn't even at the dedication.

The Civil Rights Museum in Memphis has recently become less unsure about it's future. They can now focus on raising the money for the annual awards they give out. Corporate sponsors and private donors have adopted the cause. To all those people with their complaints about those stepping up to the plate with money. An occasional meeting and a yearly visit only go so far. Especially when that visit is free. Dr. King asked that you be judged by the content of your character. Not that you get a pass without paying. Character goes a long way, but money is better. A winning combination is character and cash. Not necessarily in that order.

Is there a sickness going around? Something is making educated, attractive, productive young women put their careers on the line for these underage males. With camera phones, text messaging and this bad economy we are experiencing right now.. Between blackmailing and crimestoppers paying up to a thousand dollars for information. Nothing is secret anymore. Even though it wasn't common knowledge. This sort of thing has been happening all the time. In the past all the attention has just been heaped on men sleeping with underage girls. We took for granted Ms.Crabtree might be checking out Farina, Afterall he was bigger than all the other "Little Rascals."

We aren't talking some old frumpy school mom with legs that look like canned hams. Cinnamon Davis has a name and looks like a stripper, but was a guidance counselor at a local high school. Since the school was geared toward the trades. She was advising him on the benefits of a career in plumbing. Stacy Hopkins was popular among the boys at her school. She worked around horny, half naked boys all day long. Only three came forward. But there were probably more. April Ward got so inbolved she had a 17 yr. old living in her house for the last year. He was driving a car she had bought him and playing playstation III with her 14 yr. old son. It doesn't just happen in the city either. Devry Depriest a high school band teacher in Gallatin Tenn. didn't take heed. She took playing a horn to a whole new level.

I don't know any of these so called victims. And I use that term loosely.You can bet they all have one thing in common though. They are well endowed. Those teachers losing their jobs might be the real victims here. They were mesmerized. They just wanted to see the elephant dance. Those young men now have experience in taking advantage of a weak woman if they already didn't. One that will put her desires before her dignity. These women have lost their earned edge one inch at a time.

City Council member Edmund Ford has operated his funeral home and mortuary at a site on Elvis Presley Boulevard for three years. After a judge's ruling Tuesday, he has 45 days to leave the property.

Ford's landlord, Dennis Churchwell, left general sessions court with his attorney after a judge declared Ford in default on his rent.

Ford is $5,000 behind on his rent, according to the court. Ford filed a lawsuit last month hoping to enforce an agreement with Churchwell to sell him the property and stop the eviction process. Ford agreed to drop the lawsuit Tuesday, clearing the way for Churchwell to force him out.

Dennis Churchwell did not want to comment on the case. "I've learned to keep my mouth shut," he said. "I let my attorneys do the talking."

Edmund Ford also refused to comment on camera, but said he is trying to buy the property and everything will be okay.

Churchwell was indicted in July for lying to a grand jury that was investigating Ford about whether the councilman got a break on his rent in return for helping Churchwell get permits to store heavy equipment at his business across the street from Ford's mortuary.

Ford is also under indictment for bribery and extortion in connection with his city council seat.

I repeated a phrase by Congresswoman Michelle Bachman in Monday night's debate that I thought was funny. Not only was it funny but somewhat true also. The people I was talking to obviously didn't agree. They started trying to explain how it was a play on words as if I didn't already know that. Somehow my point got lost in the muddle. Initially I thought the fair tax was a good idea but after deeper thought it's not fair or feasible. At first I was only thinking of a way to collect on the underground economy, but that would hurt the working man even more. It would hurt way more to take 9 out of 100 than 90 out of 1000 and etc. A flat tax would would have that same effect. Now I think that's pretty simple. In Herman Cain's plan. The devil is in the details. 999 is 666 upside down.

I think I have finally figured out what all the secrecy is about. I saw a story on Fox13 last year and hadn't been able to get any follow-up information on this jewel of a school system here in Memphis. This is proof-positive that inner-city children can do as well or better if given the same opportunities. After two years of hearing how children in the MCS can't learn. We have some of the highest performing students in the nation, not just the county, from the city schools. So much for the notion that poor children can't learn.

Now to why I think it has been kept such a secret, The Jubilee schools fall under the bigger umbrella of Memphis Catholic Diocese. They do their part for charity and benevolence. What isn't made clear is they run a much larger system for profit. They don;t want to overrun the system with students who can't pay. The families pay according to their ability. Which isn't the standard tuition. The Jubilee schools are ran solely on donations. The parents don't pay with money but it isn't free. What the families lack in money they make up for in dedication.

Why don't the local "Watchdogs" join forces? Now that Mike Matthews has lost his job at WREG. He'll still want to hang around town. .I know this isn't likely to happen though, but if given a chance it might sell. I know at least one of these men is too big of an egomaniac to let it happen. He doesn't realize that half of something is better than all of nothing. It would have a bigger impact than Edmund Ford getting the Memphis fire/police unions endorsement for mayor. Realization wouldn't have hit until the first time their paychecks bounced.

This guy Thaddeus isn't aware of the real power he possess. He could really capitalize on the entry level advertisers or those who don't have a lot of money. He can't charge what Clearchannel and Citadel do for their commercials. He only has 5000 watts. He can't compare himself to Bobby OJay and WDIA. Cater to the audience he has now. Focus on the big accounts later. Build it they will come. This guy has been promising to get a five second delay for several years. That's the only thing that will stop the cursing and name calling in addition to stopping himself. Not until he can get a grip on that. Will his show rise above his knees. I will have to assume he is content with reigning over the five thousand or so faithful listeners he has and cursing and disrespecting his callers everyday. If he want's to get bigger he has to "clean it up."

Herman Cain is the bargain basement Republican. He allows all the people that really ought to listen to the president a dissenting voice. As a Independent black conservative myself. I am keenly aware of what he is right and wrong about. I agree with some of his positions but his latest rant is misplaced. The fact that it caused his meteoric rise in popularity is disturbing. His most popular comments are disparaging to blacks and Hispanics. What does that say about his supporters? They blame the bulk of this country's problems on its minorities. That's just not true.

The question Herman Cain should be asking is "why isn't his support showing up in the form of campaign contributions?" He is still in last place when it comes to raising money. In spite of what he said at first. His campaign does need cash. Sooner or later this guy is going to have to buy an ice cream cone or something. If all his supporters sent him $10 it would turn things around. That's not likely to happen though. He probably won't raise $50,000 on the whole Tennessee bus tour.

I'm surprised no one has asked this question yet. When is the last time you had a Godfathers pizza? I hadn't had one lately and I really like them. With there product they should be the most popular pizza chain in the country. I watched inferior products like Pizza Hut and Dominoes beat them out. What Herman Cain did was a liquidation at best. That's yet another reason why he hasn't won the base yet. They can read through the rhetoric. Herman Cain didn't start and build anything. He made a meal out of what the sharks left behind. Lately we have been showered with all these "rags to riches" stories. To give a glimmer of hope to the average citizen during these rough economic times. But this doesn't equate to the average Joe with a good idea. I know a few plant managers personally. They don't earn enough to buy their companies.I noticed they failed to mention how she secured the $9M needed to purchase the plant to begin with. Something here sounds fishy. Yesterday Mayor A.C. Wharton received a bittersweet win. The citizens voted for him with a mandate. They like him but they want more. This Wharton administration has failed miserably in public relations. The things he has done don't resonate with the average citizen. The budget shortfall didn't help either. The police and firefighter unions endorsed Edmund Ford Sr., obviously a protest vote. Instead of trying to run for mayor. He should be thanking his lucky stars he isn't in jail. He still managed to get 28,000 votes. It's a good thing most union members live outside of the city.

Mayor Wharton was visibly angered by some of his opponents tactics. He took the high road and blamed his anger on undue criticism. I'm sure that played a part in him being upset, but that wasn't what angered him most. What he really was upset about was the disrespect of his wife and the name calling. I wouldn't have held stepping down off the high road against him. Some times you have to take the gloves off and beat these low brows down. But since he didn't. Let's get back to business.
