One Man's Wife

I had an opportunity to hear Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie of the West Jurisdictional A.M.E. church speak this morning. I was in agreement with everything she said until she tried to justify her having the title of Bishop. She is both an eloquent speaker and a physically attractive woman. Both qualities that I'm sure played a major role in her elevation. Even though her appointment might be historical, it's not scriptural. She named almost every woman in the bible but still didn't name a female Bishop. Because there isn't one.

She is a prime example of what's happening in the church today. They're doing what they want in spite of what the word of God says. When it's covenient they want to exclude the writings of Paul. But you can't pick and choose as you see fit.
2 Timothy 3:16 (Whole Chapter) All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: A woman called in and asked her how could she be a Bishop? In her drawn out response she still didn't answer the question. Instead she used it as a plug for her latest book. If you can't find it in the bible it's just someones opinion. In her explanation she said she was one man's wife. That's not what the scripture said though.
1 Timothy 3:2 (Whole Chapter) A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach; Big difference there.

The excuse usually given is during Biblical times, it was the custom not to allow women to hold positions of authority in the church. However in modern times, it's okay.

I've also heard the excuse that the apostle Paul was a sexist.

  2. Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie, the first female bishop in the AME Church, also delivered a sermon, in which she talked about visionaries like King and Gandhi and "Jeremiah" (it was unclear whether she meant Wright), and argued that their words weren't about "anger," but about "a passion that demands confrontation."

"The purveyors of information are trying to be judge and jury over prophetic utterances," she said.

    ANYWAY...

I am in total agreement with you on this one. As a Black woman, I get a lot of flack from my Black female co-workers on this subject.

God intended for man to be head of his family and leaders in the church. Because so many women are single parents and we have a lot of weak-kneed men, women have decided to take their authority into the pulpit. People use Deborah and Esther as examples of church leaders, but they were SECULAR leaders that God used as instruments for his people. God also used Mary for the purpose of bringing Jesus into this world via childbirth.

    And let's not forget 1 Corinthians 14:34-35...

  4. Thanks for your support of my post. Many black women have a problem with that. I'm not as familiar with the views of white women. I don't congregate with a lot of them.

I guess that's the scripture they used to justify a woman being a bishop. LOL

Men simply need to stand up and be men, but either they are too controlling or they let a woman run all over them. God created man to be head of the household, not lord and master.
