Don't Burn Your Bridges

If this young lady was establishing herself as an up and coming radio personality. She shot herself in the foot with her latest move. Rennie McClatchey has left the radio just like she came. With a willingness to learn and a unrealized dream. She should have remained loyal and true to her friends. I think Bev Johnson was comfortable with having her around as a member of her posse. That was the best connection to the airwaves she had going for her. I know it probably seemed like her chance on the mic was a long time coming, but that's the nature of the business. Black radio is one of the most selfish, ego centered businesses around. Nobody is going to help you for fear of you competing with them. If you're not a good looking, sexy woman or a really funny man who can sing. You just have to pay your dues. Even then it's an uphill battle. It's just a matter of someone giving you a break. "Get in where you fit."

It's kind of like the pastors at these churches. If a visiting preacher moves the congregation to their feet, he won't soon be back. There will never be a black Rush Limbaugh, Michael Savage or Ann Coulter. These people get paid for what they say. Blacks don't want to hear another black going against the grain. Even if they know they're right. Especially if he's getting paid for the trouble. They want to close his message down. Unless you're going to offer something different. Don't expect the sea to part for you. If you're going to bring more of the same rhetoric. You have to be in the click. If there's a chance you might ever go back that way. Don't burn your bridges.

Although I agree with you overall on this post, you are too kind! I could sum it up in one sentence -- Rennie made a fool out of herself. I NEVER thought she had the chops to be on the radio. In fact, I don't understand why people think that it takes no skill to be on the radio. Nothing could be further than the truth.

Toni is much better than Rennie was, but she doesn't have sense enough to realize that she's being played. Toni is not only burning bridges, but a stack of vinyl records as well.

Now Chuck Woodsen has been fired from KWAM. This is becoming eerily similar to the scenarios at WTCK and WMQM. Thaddeus cozies up with the station brass, gets rid of any competition, and later gets fired himself. I wouldn't be surprised if this time next year KWAM and Thaddeus are feuding (or in court) with each other.

    Why was Woodesen fired?

With Thad paying for his time and not actually being employed by KWAM it seems as long as he can pay he will stay.

This may actually become the longest job he has ever had, that is as long as people advertise.

    Brian:

Thaddeus allegedly has 144 hours of air time with KWAM per week now. If he can pay for all of that, then he should pay for that judgement he has on his repo truck.

I don't know why Woodsen was fired, but Thaddeus bragged about it Friday afternoon.

  5. Anon 1:13,

A lot of people share your opinion about Rennie. The day I heard her and Lady D exchange words. I knew her existence on the radio was short lived. She hadn't been on two weeks, and she was already getting folks told.

KWAM is a small radio station trying to fill airtime. In peak output hours they're only registering 10,000 watts. As for why they're investing so much in Thaddeus. They were made for each other. Thaddeus gets to say things on the radio he couldm't anywhere else. KWAM get a workhorse willing to stay on the radio eight hours a day and pay. It's working for now.

Lady D is one of those people who think it requires no skill to be on the radio. I think that's because she has no talent herself. On the day she called WDIA and said that Janis Fullilove didn't have a problem, even Bobby O'Jay had to call her out.

I know he has been milking, I mean asking for money so he can broadcast in the mornings. I'll admit I listen to his radio show as I drive home from work. I do this mainly becasue I can't listen to Flemming due to his constant stuttering of words and also for entertainment value.

I'm guessing he cant or doesnt have to pay his judgements since he really has no pyacheck. Money comes in as advertiseing dollars and he isnt actually paid by KWAM.

I guess if him and Bailey can ever con or extort someone out of enough money then maybe he'll pay those he owes but they shouldnt hold there breath waiting for that to happen.
