Much Is Required

Since Janis Fullilove is a personal friend of mine. I can't help but hope she comes out alright. She has been their for me in the past though we disagree politically. So I can't have my usual no nonsense attitude for that very reason. I could think of many reasons to nail her to the cross if it was somebody else. But the people of Memphis seem to forgive her no matter what she does. In a sense that only makes it worse. When it comes to her and her shortcomings, equality seems to fall on deaf ears. I know she sometimes reads this site and hopefully she'll read this. I won't say much but I'll say this. "To whom much is given, much is required."

  1. Nice post.

I am sure since she is a friend of yours you had your private conversations with her. I do wish her the best.

  2. I always remember something she once said. "Sooner or later the truth always comes to light."

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - From an indictment to a fundraiser, City Councilwoman Janis Fullilove has turned her attention to Facebook to raise money, but no one knows what the money will be used for. Some of her "friends" have theories.

The troubled city councilwoman has lit up the social networking site since her arrest last Wednesday. From apologies to thank yous to Bible verses, Fullilove has used the World Wide Web to reach the masses. And now, she isn't asking for prayers, but your money.

Hours after Janis Fullilove posed for this mug shot, she was on Facebook asking for prayers and thanking her supporters for understanding the mistakes that landed her in handcuffs.

Anthony Love, who lives in her district, says "I honestly feel like she should take some time off and really get herself together before she tries to take a leadership position."

This week, Fullilove switched gears. Instead of asking for forgiveness, she is asking her faithful Facebook followers for something more tangible--money.

Stephanie Fly doesn't see anything wrong with it.

"To each their own, if that's what she wants to do, I say more power to her," says Fly.

In several status updates, Fullilove asks for people to support her upcoming fundraiser. She gives a location, and asked for a $25 donation. But when people have asked her questions like "what is the fundraiser for," the answer is never clear.

Bailey Hill, a college student, says "if you've been paying attention and you know what's going on, then year you'll make that link, and I'm not going to be stupid enough to pay for someone's legal fees."

Last Wednesday, police picked up the Memphis City Councilwoman from her Morningview home on charges of driving on a suspended license and fraudulently obtaining a driver's license.

"I really feel like she got herself into these binds, she should find a way to get herself out of it," says Love.

In one posting, Fullilove even asks for people to mail checks directly to her home if they cannot attend the fundraiser being held at The O Supper Club. Another critic post, it's so tacky to beg.

Dolores Paez says "that's not fair, that's not fair for us, we're working hard, she can work like us."

While opinions vary on Fullilove's Facebook tactics, she makes it known; she needs the money saying "pray for me a financial blessing."

"I honestly feel like she should find another way to do it," says Love.

We checked with city attorney Elbert Jefferson, and Fullilove's fundraiser is perfectly legal. If you're interested in attending, log onto our website for a link to the invitation.
