Too Far

I hadn't been watching "Inside Sports" with Rob Parker and Skip Bayless. So I wasn't aware of their motto "embrace debate". If I had t hough. I could have told Parker he was walking on thin ice. When you're on the other side of Stephen Smith. You've probably gone too far.

  1. ESPN's Rob Parker suspended 30 days for Robert Griffin III comments

ESPN has decided to suspend commentator Rob Parker for 30 days in the wake of the race-baiting remarks he made about Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III. The decision comes a week after Parker tried to stir things up on the "First Take" debate program by questioning Griffin's "blackness."

It was made official in a statement by Marcia Keegan, the ESPN vice president or production who oversees "First Take."

"Our review of the preparation for the show and the re-air has established that mistakes both in judgment and communication were made," Keegan wrote. "As a direct result, clearly inappropriate content was aired and then re-aired without editing.

"Both were errors on our part. To address this, we have enhanced the editorial oversight of the show and have taken appropriate disciplinary measures with the personnel responsible for these failures."

While Parker has been benched for while, it's clear the controversy over his comments has forced them to make some bigger changes to "First Take." According to Keegan, that doesn’t mean the show will shy away from topics that push the envelope.

"We will continue to discuss important issues in sports on 'First Take,' including race. Debate is an integral part of sports and we will continue to engage in it on 'First Take,'" the statement continued. "However, we believe what we have learned here and the steps we have taken will help us do all that better.”

Parker issued the following apology via Twitter on Wednesday:

"I blew it and I’m sincerely sorry. I completely understand how the issue of race in sports is a sensitive one and needs to be handled with great care."
