Double Talk
In light of the fact that the discovery of WMD's has garnered little media attention. It leads me to believe, that they weren't the primary issue to begin with. I guess many of them didn't want to publicly eat crow. So for the most part the Democratic leaders have remained silent. It has been a political talking point for the last three years. What will they talk about now? Here is what some of them had to say before the war.
First, let's start with Former President Bill Clinton. What did He have to say?
"If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program."
- President Bill Clinton, Feb. 17, 1998
Next, listen to what "John Kerry" had to say.
"Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation ... And now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction ... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real..." "I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force -- if necessary -- to disarm Saddam Hussein.."
- Sen. John F. Kerry (D, MA), Jan. 23. 2003
Then you have Sandy Berger, on record also...saying...
He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983."
- Sandy Berger, Clinton National Security Adviser, Feb, 18, 1998
Let's not forget Al Gore. He is on record also.
"We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country."
- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002
"Iraq's search for weapons of mass destruction has proven impossible to deter and we should assume that it will continue for as long as Saddam is in power."
- Al Gore, Sept. 23, 2002
Probably the most liberal senator in America, Ted Kennedy echoed these sentiments.
"We have known for many years that Saddam Hussein is seeking and developing weapons of mass destruction."
- Sen. Ted Kennedy (D, MA), Sept. 27, 2002
Hillary Clinton! Who's running for President in 2008,.. Did Hillary Clinton lie about WMD?
"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members ... It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons."
- Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002
How about the alleged former KKK member, Robert Byrd. What did he have to say about WMD?
"The last UN weapons inspectors left Iraq in October of 1998. We are confident that Saddam Hussein retains some stockpiles of chemical and biological weapons, and that he has since embarked on a crash course to build up his chemical and biological warfare capabilities. Intelligence reports indicate that he is seeking nuclear weapons..."
- Sen. Robert Byrd (D, WV), Oct. 3, 2002
Sen. Rockefeller weighed in on the issue also.
"There is unmistakable evidence that Saddam Hussein is working aggressively to develop nuclear weapons and will likely have nuclear weapons within the next five years ... We also should remember we have always underestimated the progress Saddam has made in development of weapons of mass destruction."
- Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D, WV), Oct 10, 2002
Captain, and once there was the Bob Graham story... listening to this.. quite chilling to me!......
"We are in possession of what I think to be compelling evidence that Saddam Hussein has, and has had for a number of years, a developing capacity for the production and storage of weapons of mass destruction."
- Sen. Bob Graham (D, FL), Dec. 8, 2002
For those that cling to the notion that the Bush administration lied, there sure are a lot of other people, like the few prominent Democrats listed about, who have told the same "lies" since the inspectors pulled out of Iraq in 1998. The Bush administration didn't lie about weapons of mass destruction! The fact was that Iraq made commitments after the Gulf War to completely dismantle all weapons of mass destruction and did not live up to its agreement.Whether you agree or disagree with the Bush Administration’s policy towards Iraq, I don’t think there can be any question about Saddam’s conduct. He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every significant UN resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he has refused to do. He lied and cheated. He snubed the mandate and authority of international weapons inspectors. And played games with the system to keep buying time against enforcement. Of the just and legitimate demands of the United Nations, the Security Council, the United States and our allies. Those are simply the facts.
Last but not least we have John Edwards, former Vice Presidential candidate. They just can't seem to get it right. What would they have done if they had been elected? Were they for or against..?
"Saddam Hussein's regime represents a grave threat to America and our allies, including our vital ally, Israel. For more than two decades, Saddam Hussein has sought weapons of mass destruction through every available means. We know that he has chemical and biological weapons. He has already used them against his neighbors and his own people, and is trying to build more. We know that he is doing everything he can to build nuclear weapons, and we know that each day he gets closer to achieving that goal."
-- John Edwards, Oct 10, 2002

ReplyDeleteThe difference between Bush and the Democrats you quoted is they were basing their opinions on intelligence reports at the time Clinton was Commander and Chief. When Bush seized the White House, the intelligence reports were proven wrong and Bush and his administration knew that. Therefore, Bush LIED to get Congress support to go to war in Iraq. North Korea has and is the biggest threat when it comes to WMD. The Iraq war will always be a debate among Americans the ones who believes Bush was right and the ones who believes Bush was wrong. The good thing about this issue, there are more Americans who believed he was right are now accepting he was wrong for sending our troops to an unjustified war.
Blinders Off,
ReplyDeleteDo you really believe that? They did have reason, to go to war under Clinton. They didn't go though. He was too busy lying, about Monica Lewinsky. Why did Sandy Berger get caught stealing Congressional papers? Clinton only impressed those, who wanted to believe the hype. Bush didn't tell a lie. He used the same information the rest of them did. No doubt everyone wants to bring the troops home. It would be better, if we weren't at war. But unfortunately we are.The bad thing is that too many Americans, don't have a clue. Thank God we have a President like Bush, who does not listen to polls. We would be sitting ducks. North Korea is a joke, they can't even feed themselves. America should take the reins off Japan. They want to handle them.
Common I respect everything you had to say on your blog but I can't believe that you actually think that Bush didn't lie about WMD. Let's do a little back-tracking starting with the Clinton administration and the bombing of the USS Cole where 17 soldiers where killed. Yes, this was publically knowledge about the bombing. However, Clinton didn't get on national T.V. and let the Yemen's know that we were coming for them we (Military) just handled our business and the next thing we heard was that the people responisible for this act of terrorist has been taking care of. Now moving forward to 9-1-1 your president got on TV and warned Osama that we (the military) was coming to get him. Being a soldier, how do you warned the enemy that we are coming to get you when they are well aware of what they had done. They new that America was going to send troops but by me warning you giving you an exact date that I would be coming for you made the soldiers job just that much more difficult. When he could not fine Bin laden he put his focused on Sadaam and that troops would be going there to oust the leader that had WMD. The WMD that they supposely have had was purchased from the first Bush that was in office. Leading me to this, His father sold Sadaam the WMD and now he the Son wants them back. I know that this is your blog and I promise I respect your opinion and how you are on point. However, saying that Bush is basically your opinion because I as a soldier that spent time in Iraq beg the difference.

ReplyDeleteYes, I believe what I stated just like you believe what you said. Therefore, the Iraq war will always be debatable. It is funny how Bush supporters always come back with the one lie Clinton told the world, "I did not have sexual relations with Monica Lewinsky". That is nothing compared to the LIES from the Bush Administration.
Anon 10:26:
I can relate to what you are saying because I have family and friends’ serving in Iraq now, one is on his third tour. It does not take a psychologist to see the change in the soldier who I reference is on his third tour in Iraq. One can only imagine what he has and is experiencing over there. I hope you do not have to go back there and THANK YOU for serving to protect us when necessary.
Anonymous 10:26,
ReplyDeleteFirst let me say, I appreciate you serving to protect our country. Thank you for your service. Whether it was by choice or not. Now that we got that covered, that's where the disagreement begins. Clinton bombed an aspirin factory, that was the retaliation for the U.S. Cole bombing. The warning you talk about, was the time period spent trying to get America to get on board. I know people in the armed services too, but none of them were drafted. They all volunteered, so did you. Why do we think terrorism is just in one place? Had we caught O'sama in Afghanistan. Do you think it would have stopped there? Those clowns are killing each other. Without us being there. What do you think they would do? They would kill everybody that got in their way, including you. Even if we don't agree. I enjoy the conversation, don't be a stranger.
Blinders Off,
ReplyDeleteI've come to the conclusion some people don't want to know the truth. If you can't prove me wrong, then obviously you are. When it comes to lies Clinton told, that's just the beginning. I can prove everything I say. What did George Bush lie about, that you can prove? Don't say WMD's, they found them again last week. When we get beyond emotions you and all those against the president run out of steam. I love you though.
Your Welcome Blinders and I have been too Iraq twice and hopefully I will not have to go back. However, that is part of being a soldier. If I believe in my heart that we had a cause in Iraq than I would be all for it but we don't and the things that you see when you are there changes your life forever. I don't care what kind of conseling you receive once you return it does not help. However, with the support of family, friends and my church I am handling the best I can. It really pisses me off that the only thing Bush supporters can say about Clinton is the Monica Lewinsky episode. Do we talk about Bush in his many DUI's as govenor of Tx no because that was his personal life we are talking about the innocent people that are loosing their lives for a war that is not just. Common, I love you and normally would not post but I really enjoy your commentaries however you are so wrong about this here.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous 3:22,
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting, please don't let it be the last. I expect people to go against me when I support Bush. I 'm not saying Bush is perfect, but I'm not either. When all else fails we have to look at it from a spiritual perspective.
Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
When it's all said and done. God allows all power that's in place. I know he watches over me and mine.
Bishop,
ReplyDeleteI won't get mad, please don't think I am. I could say this is a dead horse, but I won't. I want my brothers to see. I know you will understand, what I said above to Anonymous.
Common:
ReplyDeleteI am going to have to go with Bishop on this because this is a debate that can go on...without neither viewpoint coming to an understanding.
Bush and his administration have to much power for me to research and get the proof on the many lies he told Congress and the American people. The proof will start surfacing when he is out of office...otherwise history would have been the impeachment of the President and ALL his men.lol
Catch you on another post.
Blinders-Off,
ReplyDeleteLike I always say this president will be appreciated, after he's gone.
Look at the Hezbollah !!!
