Just Doing His Job

I applaud "Bartlett Mayor A. Keith McDonald" for taking a stand and not allowing the media and busy bodies of that community to put his #u*s in a vise. If left up to some of them, Bartlett would soon be like little Memphis. Take Cordova as an example. Look at their court battles with Christals Boutique. It was supposed to be a harmless novelty shop too. They looked up and had a full fledged sex shop. Before I finish writing this post, I'm sure I'll be labeled as all kinds of chauvinist zealots and any other stereotype. But I'm just like A. Keith McDonald here. I see the writing on the wall. Today it's a strip to fit studio, next year it's a S&M bar. The Adult Entertainment industry has finally made it's way to Bartlett. Disguising itself as a exercise class. The Mayor acted on a complaint by other citizens. Who obviously don't want this type of business in their town. Now it's up to the lawyers and judges. It's out of Mayor McDonald's hands. I'm sure all the naysayers would say he's overstepping his bounds. But kike it or not, that's his job. That's why the citizens of that city voted for him as Mayor. "If you don't stand up for something, you'll fall for anything."

This is probably something driven by the GBLT community. They're always somewhere trying to force some community to do something new. Not saying that all the women who participate in this class are lesbians, but I bet the owners are. Women are unsuspecting, they think they have everything under control. A lot of women feel it's okay because Oprah endorsed it on her television show. Who is she stripping for, does she still have a man? She is the richest black woman in the world, but I still have my doubts about her. I take what she says with a grain of salt. I keep what I need, and throw the rest away. I wish everyone else would don the same. Read my earlier post: http://indepcons.blogspot.com/2008/03/she-believes-in-oprah.html

The main thing that sets this strip club apart from others is,"they don't allow men." What can one woman tell another woman about what a man likes? Contrary to popular belief. A woman stripping at the house, won't keep a man away from the club. If he likes that kind of thing. Women don't need to consult other women on how to strip. What happens when the pole dancing is no longer exciting to the husband. Since he wasn't asked what he liked anyway. Are they going to start a class in Dominatrix? See if that sparks an interest. This is just another example of a group of women holding hands in darkness. Read it and see what you think:

You have no idea what you are talking about. I am okay with you not wanting the studio in Bartlett. That's fine. But you don't know who the people are who are taking these classes. We are doctors (like myself), lawyers, and teachers. We have bachelors, masters, and other degrees. We have full time careers. I could care less about stepping into a strip club. I dare you to try the workout and see if you are man enough for it. And for your spiteful comments about lesbians. The owners are not lesbians. One of them has been married more than 15 years with 3 children.

I have no idea about the people who attend those classes, but I stand behind my contentions. Doctors, lawyers and teachers are often some of the most liberal thinking people in the world. So just because they don't see a problem doesn't make it right. Their livelihood is often dependent on society going to the dogs.

I apologize for the lesbian comment. It was made without proof. For those that aren't of that persuasion. I can understand you being offended. For those that are, that's just too bad. I was accomodating as I felt I needed to be, when I said probably.

I can tell by your comments you are a female who obviously was affected by the nmayor's decision. Instead of telling us why the mayor was in violation. You want to tell us who participates in the activity. Something wasn't up to snuff or they wouldn't have closed it down.

Bartlett to pay Eccentric Studios $20,000 over closing
By David Healy (Contact), Memphis Commercial Appeal
Tuesday, July 22, 2008

Bartlett aldermen agreed Tuesday night to pay $20,000 to the owners of a dance studio shut down briefly this month by the city.

In a 4-2 vote, the town’s aldermen decided to take their attorney’s advice and put the matter behind them by approving the settlement with Eccentric Studios, which offers the class “Strip to Fit.”

Dance studio co-owner Rachael Vint had taught the “Strip To Fit” program at various fitness facilities around the Bartlett area for the last three years. She teaches women 18 years or older the art of burlesque, pole dancing and “sexy stretching.”

In a statement, Bartlett Mayor Keith McDonald said he still believes the city did nothing wrong on July 14 10 when the city issued a stop-work order on the studio for not being zoned properly as a sexually oriented business. The order came one day before the studio was set to open.

“Although the city’s actions were undertaken in what was thought to be the best interest of the community and categorically denies it did anything in violation of the law it recognizes that litigation is expensive,” McDonald said.

Bartlett code enforcement officials lifted its order July 16, which allowed the studio to open. But co-owner Rachael Vint still said the stoppage cost her business thousands of dollars because she had to refund money and take out mirrors and dancing poles.

Vint said she was relieved about the settlement and said she plans to begin classes next week.

“Honestly, I just want to get in and teach,” she said. “I never wanted to pick a fight with the mayor or the city.”

Vint had argued that there will be nothing “dirty” about her business and that it is a “great way to exercise.”

Aldermen Rick Faith and Bobby Simmons voted against the measure.

“I take $20,000 seriously and I feel like we didn’t do anything wrong,” Faith said.

I commend Rick Faith and Bobby Simmons.

The reason why the decision to close the establishment was wrong is because it isn't a sexually oriented business. I read the ordinance and it does not meet the qualifications of SOB. You cannot pick and choose which of the ordinances you like or if you agree with them. The reason the business reopened is because the city attorney knows that the owner is well within her rights to open this business.
