Is Honor In Order Here

At last nights MCS school board meeting an issue about a student not being selected for the "National Honor Society" was on the agenda. Her parents and several other citizens feel she was denied based on her race. The student was Black, her principal was White. She graduated with a 5.0 GPA, and a long list of achievements. Some people seem to feel that in itself is reason enough for her to be selected. Her principal seems to think she didn't meet the criteria for leadership. With such a high GPA at least we know she's smart. That's not enough to get her selected though. That's why I have pasted the requirements of the selection process below.

National Honor Society
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The National Honor Society (NHS), established in 1921, is a recognition program for American high school students who show achievement in scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
Students are selected for membership through an established school chapter in secondary public and accredited private schools by a five member Faculty Council. Candidates must meet the chapter's requirement for scholarship, service, leadership and character in order to be selected for membership.
Continued participation in service projects is required to retain membership. Members must also maintain the chapter's required cumulative GPA.

The board is going to take the request to overide the principal's decision under consideration. They will anounce their decision at next weeks meeting. I can't make an informed decision since I haven't heard both sides. I know Jennings Bernard was asked to speak on her behalf. Which I think is a move inspired by frustration. Enter the race card. Based on the limited information that was given. Do you think she was cheated?
