Where Is Mr. Tinker ?

I know some are going to say this doesn't matter. I guess depending on your reason for asking, maybe it doesn't. In my opinion, I think your personal life influences your political decisions. I don't think you can separate the two. I know I'm not the first one who has wondered about this. I find it interesting that, this was never mentioned. Could it be because some of the other candidates, share this somewhat odd distinction as well. She has obviously paid attention, to the fund raising techniques of the former Congressman. She has raised over 1/2 million dollars. She was campaign manager for Harold Ford Jr., in his last election. She has collected more that both her closest competitors put together. She has raised as of July 14th $527,916. It has been said the winner of this race. Will boil down to whoever campaigns the most agressively this week. She is hard at it, I got a call from one of her workers today.

No Tax Weekend

Be Careful What You Ask For

The Charter Commission has blown up, in the Black community's face. What started out as a protest against Mayor Herenton, has snowballed out of control. Now they're filing lawsuits, to try and limit the damage. If you ask me, it's too little too late. That's the thing about starting a brushfire. You can't control the wind. This whole thing was a bad idea, from the start. I have consistently said that. I have been against the Charter Commission from the very beginning. I expected something like this to happen. It's too late to change it though. There will be one, whether we want it or not. The uninformed citizens voted for the change.

The first flag should have been, the organizer John Lunt. He is not even a Memphis resident. He lives in the city of Germantown. He used those with sour grapes and political aspirations, to sale his idea to Memphis people. They were able to gather thirty thousand protest signatures. I bet you probably half of those people, don't even know what the charter is about. I spoke with one of the candidates in the race. He told me, the Commercial Appeal reporter assigned to the story. Said of those she interviewed, he was the only one even knowledgeable. About what the Charter was really about. With forty-three people running. That's not a very good sign.

I don't think this was planned. It just worked out that way. The Mayor's recall petition was a bust, but it gathered enough signatures for this. I would imagine if you cross-referenced the signatures. There would be an undeniable ratio. While we were focused on the recall. Which none of us expected to really happen. This slipped in the back door. I know they didn't expect the overwhelming early voter turnout. We have had so far. Giving voters the opportunity, to vote for positions all over the city. I think the members will be decided, in the early voting. I don't expect an offset on August 3rd, that's just one day.The Rainbow Coalition has filed a lawsuit trying to change the ballot. They now want it to be a district by district vote. They have a valid argument, only to late. Now this thing isn't turning out the way some people planned. They want to change the rules. You have to be careful what you ask for, you just might get your wish.

The Truth About Frederick Douglass

Something about this picture has always haunted my spirit. It just doesn't make you want to fight the power, as one would imagine. Instead of a scoundrel, he looks more like a scholar. Like most Black people, I just accepted that Frederick Douglass was an ill-tempered abolistionist. That didn't take no stuff off White people. But was that really the case? I watched a PBS documentary with Tony Brown, that almost told the whole story. Even though sometimes unwillingly. I can see why there isn't a push to tell the truth. It tarnishes the image that many of us have. That's probably why you don't see a lot of interviews, with his great-grandson Frederick IV.

There are a lot of things that are uncertain, in regtards to Mr. Douglass and his past. One thing for sure is, his father was a White Man. In spite of his lineage, he wasn't treated special. He wasn't given the usual perks, afforded to the children of white men. He learned to read on his own, with no formal education. He picked up from the little White boys, after they had gone to school. He was aware of the importance of an education. So he secretly learned to read and write. Had he not been sent back to the south. Would he have really been concerned with other Blacks? To some degree that explains his pictures, in my opinion. I think it was the fact that his whiteness was ignored. That brought about his bitterness against America. He would probably have been perfectly content, had he been accepted. Would we have ever heard of him? I have a problem with positions spurred on, by sour grapes. Had they been appeased personally. The position probably wouldn't exist.

This brings to mind the story of MalcomX and the Nation of Islam. In the minds of many that know of him. He is most remembered for something, he would rather you forget. Just like MalcolmX, Frederick Douglass had a change of heart. In their later years. The radical rhetoric they are known for. Is largely a part of their past. Their personal experiences and abilities, were used to farther someone elses agenda. Which wasn't always the same. Just like Elijah Muhummad used MalcomX, William Lloyd Garrison did the same with Frederick Douglass. William Lloyd Garrison gave him a platform. A way to get his message out. But he couldn't see the forest, for the trees. He only ended up having a small part, of a much bigger picture.


The fact that he was a soldier and recruiter, for the Union Army. Is a piece of his past, that's barely even mentioned. He has heid several government appointments, under a Republican administration. That doesn't fit the perception of him. This modern day distrust Blacks have, for the Republican party. Couldn't honestly be supported by Mr. Douglass, if he was alive. He was the American minister to Haiti. If that's a position, you would want to add to your resume. Obviously he didn't have much of an impact. Voodoo is the national religion there. His political views obviously didn't apply to his personal life. He himself had a controversial interracial marriage. I don't want to undermine the importance of Frederick Douglass, in American Black history. He was kind of like the first, Civil Rights leader. Although he ended up getting swindled out of his personal fortune. Although he vehemently denounced the system earlier in life. He was an active player in the game. Whenever he got the chance. He just didn't win.

Why Are We Surprised ?

"Mo'nique" famed comedienne has had a run in with United Airlines. A dispute with an attendant arose this past Saturday. After one of her entourage refused to follow direct orders, pertaining to a hairdryer. Obviously there were rules were being broken. She was removed from the plane. I can imagine she has surrounded herself, with people just like her. Loud and obnoxious, talking instead of listening. That would explain the clash of personalities. It's needless to say, she's outspoken to say the least. She has proclaimed that an apology, from the airlines won't be enough. The way this thing is unfolding so far. She might not even get that. I hope this doesn't happen, but I'm not ruling it out. She just might discover, that she's not as liked, as she thought. Her being a "Big Girl" as she calls herself. There are people waiting for her to slip. They don't like her anyway. As evidenced by some of the comments I've heard. This might be what they've been waiting for.

I'm disappointed that again Blacks are being put in the spotlight, for something so foolish. This reminds me of the Cynthia McKinney fiasco. Which turns out that she, is the one who should have been arrested. Mo'nique is barking up the wrong tree this time. Black women everywhere need to undestand. Your hair is only a big deal to you. Logical thinking people, are more concerned with what's underneath. She won't get the communities backing, when it comes to this. She has already tried to make this a racial issue. By claiming she has a voice in the community. And asking Blacks not to use United. Her voice is one in comedy, not social issues. I hope someone in her camp has the influence on her. To advise her to leave this one alone. Since the 9/11 tradgedy, airport security has carte blanche. I'm not surprised that something like this would happen. Considering the source. Look at her stage act. She was the same Mo'nique last week, that she is today. We'll see how this turns out.

Now This, I'm Upset About

As a Independent Conservative. Why are my views always grouped with others? I'm not Democrat or Republican. Why do I have to make a choice? If you choose one or the other. You're only provided with the names of the candidates, from those particular parties. What if someone is like myself. We have the added responsibility, of knowing everyone's name in the race. You have some candidates, only concerned with getting the parties nomination. You shouldn't automatically receive someone's vote. Due to them not having an alternate choice. If you ask my opinion. I think that's a method of voter discrimination in 2006. What do you think?

Extension Of Voting Rights Act (1965)

We truly do perish for a lack of knowledge. An empty wagon makes the most noise. Even when they're proven to be wrong. Those perpetuators want to drop it, or change the subject. You can rest assured the loudest person in the crowd, usually doesn't know what they're talking about. In 1965 there was a need, for a voting rights extension. In some places, Blacks were treated less than animals. Especially little spot, the family dog. During that time, Jim Crow was alive and well. There is not a need for Blacks in 2006. The major provisions of the bill, are already permanent law. This is the same mentality that believes, the Hispanics are taking their jobs. If you look at what this bill provides. You just might discover, it's like shooting yourself in the foot. Depending on how you feel about the immigrants. It energizes the opponent to a degree. I just ask that before you start to criticize. A Jury Of Sorts, For A Judge

The old saying goes "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery". If someone thinks enough of your actions, to try and copy them. You should consider that an honor, and a sign of respect. It gives you a responsibility, as well as respect though. If people are influenced by you, you have to watch your actions. I would think that particularly applies to a Judge. Who better to rate your performance, than another with the same obligations as you? Of course they must be honest and objective. To give a fair assessment of one another. Your value of their opinion, depends largely on your impression of them. Another Lawyer (Richard Fields)has rated his colleagues that are seeking judgeships, in the upcoming local elections. Bare in Mind that this letter, was sent to other lawyers. Those who are paid for their level of comprehension. He has first hand knowledge, in their field of expertise. A Lawyer's trade, is his intellect. He has to be able to effectively communicate, as well as understand. It's safe to say these are some of the brightest minds in our midst. So I'm sure Mr. Fields would not make unclaimed statements. You must first be a lawyer, before you can be a Judge. I can imagine some of his opinions would be biased. After thirty years in the profession, he is bound to have made some personal friends. Other than the one about "never having been a Judge before". All his concerns are worthy of addressing. Not just because he is a lawyer. But a voting citizen, like you and me. Like I always say "the best defense if you're not guilty, is the truth". If you tell the truth the first time. Carlee McCullough For Chancery Court

Today I had the opportunity to hear Ms. McCullough attempt to explain, some allegations made against her. I still wasn't convinced after hearing what she said. That's my personal opinion though. Oftentimes that's what it boils down too. Whether or not, you like that individual. Let me say this in regards, to any political candidate. I'm not impressed, by the single motherhood platform. In Memphis they seem to wear this as a badge of honor. To me that represents bad judgment in at least one instance. I know people sometimes are faced with insurmountable odds, but usually that's not the case. For the entitlement minded slacker. Bankruptcy court is a way of shirking ones responsibility, or not paying your bills. Instead of reorganizing and buying a new $60,000 truck. Why not pay the money you owe? Even though it was legal. That doesn't make it right. That's why they changed the bankruptcy laws. Situations just like this. It might appear smart, but it's not ethical. The same thing applies to the other talkshow guest Ms. Saafir, whom I know even less about. All I know is she is a divorced mother of four, who filed bankruptcy. I'm Not Gay, I'm Just Not Normal

Oprah Winfrey has attained a level of success, beyond our wildest dreams. She is the only Black female Billionaire, in the world today. That's an unmatched feat in itself. That has nothing to do with her sexuality though. Just because she is successful in her profession, doesn't equate to her being successful in her daily life. A heterosexual woman, that doesn't have or want a man. And doesn't have children either. That doesn't make her Gay, but that does raise questions. Give me a break. If you're not Gay, you're up to something. Let's not start calling an unnatural lifestyle, simply a strong friendship. The two are definitely not the same. Let's not start promoting Oprah Winfrey's lifestyle, just because she's rich. There are several reasons for one to question her position. This is where I get caught though. She promotes the idea, that a woman doesn't need a man. Just because her and Gail don't. They have each other. That doesn't apply to everyone. The majority of heterosexual women need and want a man. If she doesn't, what is Steadman for? A lifetime partner is something she came up with. If you don't need a man personally, keep it to yourself. I know everyone is hoping for a car, or a pair of $200,000 earrings. I think Oprah has issues though.

In America we have a tendency to okay anything that we find profitable. Those who know that something is wrong here. Are scrambling for ways, to sweep it under the carpet. Now all of a sudden, it's not our business. When they encounter disgust and distaste, with homosexuality. They soon seem to forget, they brought it up in the first place. This reminds me of a story I read in school as a child. It was called "The Emperors New Clothes". It was about only a little boy having the courage, to tell the truth. Even though he sees, what everyone else does. Oprah has stated that it's alright to be in a Gay relationship. Regardless who says it, that's not right. Actually Oprah didn't say it, Gail did. But Oprah didn't correct her mistake. That's what we're experiencing here. Since it's okay with Oprah it must be alright. After all she's on television daily. Even though we admire her. Oprah doesn't have the ability to supersede the word of God.

Separation At St. Petersburg

I didn't know which facet of my argument to start with first. I guess my whole way of thinking as it were. Leads up to something like this happening. I did a very controversial lesson, in VBS last year. That started with our races inception. Back to the days of Noah, and his three sons. As I go on with this blog, it will come into play again. Though contrary to popular public opinion. I agree with President Bush's position, on the war in Iraq. We had to take the war to them, or have it brought to America. This ordeal further proves that the bible is always right. Americans should put themselves, in the place of the Israeli people. For those of us that are Christians. It could easily be us, being bombed and killed. In another time and place, like Germany for instance. Who is represented in the summit meeting, by the way. Just over sixty years ago. Had Hitler not been stopped, where would we be now? In my personal opinion. They are doing what America should have did, with O'sama Bin Laden. We should have struck back without hesitation. Then America would have been more accepting, of the war in Iraq. Some members of the summit think Israel over reacted. How were they supposed to react, while they were being attacked? Had they waited for France, Germany and Russia, to give them the go ahead. They would have been totally wiped out by then. If it wasn't for America having their back. The others would have jumped all over Israel, a long time ago. We already know where they're coming from, and what they're capable of doing. The terrorist and their followers condone everything. I can't prove it, but I think someone is behind them. Like maybe Syria or Iraq. Both of whom have issues by the way, with the United States. And are supporters of the Hezbollah too. In a moment of frustration. Which I'm sure he's had many. The President was caught on tape, using an expletive. All of a sudden it's unbecoming of our Commander-In-Chief, according to some haters. Many of these people don't listen, to anything else he has to say. Why are they raking him over the coals now? He is no more the President today. Than he was yesterday. Or for the last almost six years, for that matter. I understand his frustration. I can feel his pain. It's as plain as the nose on your face. What is going on here? The Hezbollah is being used, to agitate America. Jumping on Israel unprovoked, is sure to bring America out. It's like jumping on someone's younger brother. The big brother is waiting in the wings. In case it gets out of hand. Somebody else tries to get involved. Israel is taking care of business on their own. Right now they don't need anybody else. One on one, they have the situation under control. It's the outside influences you have to worry about. The Group of Eight (G8) consists of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Have you noticed that none of the present troublemakers, are included in the meeting? The issue came up, while having a discussion yesterday. The heaviest populated areas of the earth. Weren't even included in the summit. No one is there, from the continents of Africa or Asia. It isn't about the number of people, but the power they possess. Remember I mentioned Noah in the beginning? Here it is again. Read the following scripture.

The power structure hasn't changed. If you follow the lineage of the different brothers Ham, Shem and Japeth. You will find that the prophecy of Noah hasn't changed. Everything is pretty much the same, as it was then. The power is still broken down along those lines. The leader of America is always included, in whatever is taking place. If they leave America out, it's under the table. It's sinister in it's design. The President is aware of this, and gets tired understandably. Look at the video below. Help Is Found In Hope

There is no way for sure now, that we can identify who gave the money. To save the financially troubled "Lemoyen Owen College". The institute with the distinction, of being the only HBC in Memphis. After this disclosure, they will remain anonymous. The anonymous donor will be known as the "Hope Christian Center". According to the way this thing is set up, now we don't have to know. The center has this option called "Donor Advised Funds". It allows you to control your donation, and receive all the benefits. Such as the tax write off, and designating the recipient. Without ever revealing your identity. It is the perfect arrangement for a situation such as this. One thing for sure it was a Christian foundation. So we know where the money came from, and it's intent. The Johnny come latelys won't be able to claim the victory. The donor that pledged the money, obviously was not in search of accolades. That's how I know the donor wasn't Black. I don't mean to sound stereotypical, but I couldn't let this slide. Everyone that gave $100 wanted to get on the radio. Not to mention the politicians. In the eleventh hour someone unknown came through. Now I understand the plan, it was of Christian design.

I knew it would happen, before it was over. Somebody would find fault, in who gave the money. Suddenly we have someone willing, to donate the money after the fact. So we don't actually know, if they were going to give the money or not. The donor gave stipulations on the gift. I can't really blame them, for their request. More people would have been willing to help out. Had they been given that option, in the first place. If they really had a donor they can still use them. There is still an unmatched pledge on the table, for one million dollars. Lemoyen Owen was six million dollars in debt. The initial contribution just paid expenses for June. The school could still use the help. Those who are critical of the contribution. Take issue with the fact, that it has stipulations. The phantom donor, I'm sure has stipulations as well. I bet it was contingent, upon certain people remaining in place. Lemoyen Owen has operated at a loss, for as long as I can remember. It has always been in financial trouble. The doors couldn't remain open due to student loans. No longer will they be able to buy enough time. To get the government money, secured by student grants and loans. For those who have been not good stewards, of the colleges money. No longer will the lack of accountability be accepted. If they want the help of the "Hope Christian Center". Checks and balances are going to be put in place.

Fathers Please, Explain It To Your Daughters

I have noticed something, I find very disturbing. I don't know if others feel this way. But I think it says something frightening about our fledgling society. Lately everytime a Stripper makes the news or gets national attention. Their fathers( if you want to call them that) come forward in defense, of their daughters occupation. What is this world coming to, when a man okays prostitution by his daughter. In the old days even the hardest Pimp, wouldn't turn his own daughter out. I would expect that from a mother( if you want to call them that). It's usually a sign of no real man being in their life. Not that I would expect that from the average woman. But women do anything to satisfy men. In addition to the fact, that a man can usually supply their wants. Or at least they think he can. If the mother is gullible, and weak. She will probably pass on that way of thinking, to her child. Like mother, like daughter. But that's not supposed to happen when there's a father, in the picture. He is supposed to be his daughters protector.

I'm all for supporting your children, and allowing them their freedom. But there is a limit on how far you should go. Lately these fathers come forward, after something bad has happened. Like their daughters have been raped,beaten up or robbed. There's no excuse, but that's goes with the territory. It's a little late, to play the concerned father role then. Where were you when she needed you most? When she needed fatherly guidance. Before she got involved with this life of corruption. The first excuse you'll usually hear, is they're grown and they will do what they like. If you have been a positive influence in your daughters life. She wouldn't come to you, expecting your support. She would be to embarrassed to let you know. A man should explain to his daughter what she, is worth. She is like a diamond, and should be treated as such. I know everyone isn't going to tell her that. That's why she should hear it from him. If she is going to hear it from any man. It should at least be from her father. Fathers please, explain it to your daughters.

Charter Commission

Let me first say I'm not in favor of the Charter Commission. I respect the law, and it says it's okay. Whether I agree or not, it's going to come to pass. I think the powers that be, knew this wouldn't go away. So they loaded the race with ringers. There are forty three people running for a seat, on the new board. Some of them already hold public office. Others have a well known name. I know we have a city councilman and at least a couple of former politicians, on the ballot. I think this is yet another attempt, by the minority. To circumvent the process. If they can't get power at the polls. They'll get it in the courts. It was initially started by someone, who doesn't even live in Memphis. John Lunt the organizer, lives in Germantown. I personally would take his concerns more serious. Were he a Memphis resident. I'm a little tired of these people on the outside. Who want to represent, somewhere they consider not worth living. We have a system of government where the majority rules. Whoever gets the most votes wins. I think they call it a representative Republic. It's not fair to use the city for it's benefits, and spend the rewards somewhere else. This is a sensitive situation. Let's hope it's handled properly. We'll just have to wait and see.

Shelby County Sheriffs Debate

I learned something new today, watching the Sheriffs candidate debate. After watching the program I found out. I wasn't aware, of exactly what the Sheriffs job description was. His primary responsibility is to maintain the jail, pass out warrants and provide security for the courts. They serve more as reinforcements, for the Memphis city police. And all the other surrounding cities like Bartlett, Collierville and Germantown. When it comes to patrolling the streets, and answering calls. Their primary role is back-up. They are responsible for the unincorporated areas also. The latest addendum added was "other duties as assigned". That was recently added, in this last term. My major concern at this point is the rising crime statistics, that's all across the board. So my major complaint doesn't lie with the Sheriff's office. Not at the onset anyway.

I'm glad Luttrell made that clear from the start. I'm sure I wasn't the only one mistaken. To some of those that listened, that may have been a deciding point. I think this debate really boiled down, to whether or not you were open-minded. Some people already had their mind made up, before the debate ever started. There were several points brought out, in last nights televised event. Many that could help you make up your mind, who to support. Afterwards the reporters said many undecided voters, had made up their minds. If they heard the same thing I did. I wonder what they decided? I know what I heard, and decided both.

They both addressed the same issues, that are always mentioned. With pretty much the same uniform answers, we've come to expect. Domestic violence and Juvenile crime, are hotbed issues. That are always going to come up, in any discussion of law enforcement these days. So I got nothing new, when it came to those concerns. They both fielded those questions with ease. Then it came to the point of moral turpitude. What they considered right and wrong. There were a couple of questions there, where Mr. French was shaky at best. I'm glad the Black panelist asked the question, and not Norm Brewer. So it can't be perceived as being racist. They both were accused of the same thing , in different situations. I have been following these stories from their beginning. Therefore I have a deeper insight than most local people. I follow these things consistently. There is a major difference, in some things done in the past. And having made restitution, and now being clean. And actively being part of the underworld right now. If you don't see the difference, that's where the problem begins. Another question came up about divesting ones interest, in present business ventures. Of course they said they would surrender them. Do you think they really will? I was disturbed to discover, that they really could do nothing about the problem we're facing right now. Based on what they can do, Sheriff Luttrell has done a fine job. At least he's kept his promises. We have yet to see, if Mr. French can do what he says. I noticed they both dodged the question that's first and foremost on my mind." What are their views on consolidation"? I guess that's a question any county official wants to ignore. It would be like shooting themselves in the foot. I did hear a new term they both used though "Functional Consolidation". I guess that's something where they got together and agreed. A Fly In The Buttermilk

I don't know whether Ron Redwing has noticed this or not. He may be in the wrong arena, to bring up color. The race card may not be appropriate in this instance. He is running for the congressional seat, in the 9th district. The incumbent, as well as some of his main opponents. Are shall we say, of a different hue. They may look more like White people than Black. I think Mr. Redwing may have done more damage to his campaign, than he did to help it out. I don't blame Ron Rewing for bringing it up, his campaign needed a shot in the arm. Anything to get him on television. That's about all it did.

If you tell the truth about the matter. According to the above photographs. Mr. Cohen is darker than some of his challengers. Not to mention the one, whose vacating the seat. If he thinks only a Black can represent this district. His brother disqualifies him, by boasting of their Indian bloodline. Steve Cohen will already get a majority, of the crossover vote. The Black vote will be split so many ways, the majority won't matter. People like myself aren't concerned with the candidates color. We focus on their ability, more than anything else. Ed Stanton III opened the can of worms, but soon left it alone. Now he is claiming "it doesn't make a difference". Probably after being given better advice by someone. Let me first say, this is not an endorsement of Mr. Cohen. I'm not one of his supporters. I think the lottery, was a bad thing for Tennessee. It could have something to do with the fact, that I don't gamble anyway. If I did I'd be happy, with Cohen's public service. I used to, so I understand the urge. If you are one of those many people. That want someone who provides constituent service. Steve Cohen is the best pick, for the job. From a strategic standpoint. Anything that causes ruffles in the race, is an advantage for Joe Ford Jr. He has the education and connections, and he is a Ford. The machine is still alive. Look at district 29. The only other person who might gain something from this. Has remained silent about the issue. Any people that might change their mind, about Steve Cohen. Would lean toward Julian Bolton.

What Is A Ex-Minister ?

That's kind of like an excommunicated Priest. If you were ever really a minister, it's an oxy-moron statement. That's the problem I have, with the AME and CME denominations. They appoint their leaders, and teachers. The gift of being the leader of a ministry, or a Pastor. Should be one ordained by God. When you look at the way of thinking, of some of these people. It makes a case for that way of organization though. Dispensed properly, it provides decency and order. A lot of people just don't have, that discipline within them. Their thoughts are evil continually. Even when they call themselves believers. The best way to get close to them, or get their attention. Is approach them with some trash. The word of God has never, or will ever change. If you once believed what you were charged with teaching, at what point did you stop believing?

The man in the picture "Scott Hall" is a prime example, of what a minister should represent. I have ran across several paintings, with him being the subject. I don't know anything about him, other than these paintings. But all of them have a common thread I noticed. He is preaching the gospel, in the most unusual places. I saw one picture of him preaching the word of God, around the slave auction block. Imagine what that was like? A minister should preach the gospel, in and out of season. You have to preach the word of God. Even when it's an unpopular subject. A minister must trust in the word. A person should be recognized by the fruit that they bare. There should be more people talking about your works, than just you. That doesn't mean you will have all these accoutrements offered by the world. The fancy automobiles, clothes and houses. That's what the world looks for. This is what we should see, in the life of a minister.

Being a minister is not a job, it's a way of life. It should be the basis, of who you are. When I hear someone call themselves an ex-minister. I can't help but wonder. Were they real to begin with?

Double Talk

In light of the fact that the discovery of WMD's has garnered little media attention. It leads me to believe, that they weren't the primary issue to begin with. I guess many of them didn't want to publicly eat crow. So for the most part the Democratic leaders have remained silent. It has been a political talking point for the last three years. What will they talk about now? Here is what some of them had to say before the war.


First, let's start with Former President Bill Clinton. What did He have to say?

"If Saddam rejects peace and we have to use force, our purpose is clear. We want to seriously diminish the threat posed by Iraq's weapons of mass destruction program."

Next, listen to what "John Kerry" had to say.

"Without question, we need to disarm Saddam Hussein. He is a brutal, murderous dictator, leading an oppressive regime ... He presents a particularly grievous threat because he is so consistently prone to miscalculation ... And now he is miscalculating America's response to his continued deceit and his consistent grasp for weapons of mass destruction ... So the threat of Saddam Hussein with weapons of mass destruction is real..." "I will be voting to give the President of the United States the authority to use force -- if necessary -- to disarm Saddam Hussein.."

Then you have Sandy Berger, on record also...saying...

He will use those weapons of mass destruction again, as he has ten times since 1983."

Let's not forget Al Gore. He is on record also.

"We know that he has stored secret supplies of biological and chemical weapons throughout his country."

Probably the most liberal senator in America, Ted Kennedy echoed these sentiments.

Hillary Clinton! Who's running for President in 2008,.. Did Hillary Clinton lie about WMD?

For those that cling to the notion that the Bush administration lied, there sure are a lot of other people, like the few prominent Democrats listed about, who have told the same "lies" since the inspectors pulled out of Iraq in 1998. The Bush administration didn't lie about weapons of mass destruction! The fact was that Iraq made commitments after the Gulf War to completely dismantle all weapons of mass destruction and did not live up to its agreement.Whether you agree or disagree with the Bush Administration’s policy towards Iraq, I don’t think there can be any question about Saddam’s conduct. He has systematically violated, over the course of the past 11 years, every significant UN resolution that has demanded that he disarm and destroy his chemical and biological weapons, and any nuclear capacity. This he has refused to do. He lied and cheated. He snubed the mandate and authority of international weapons inspectors. And played games with the system to keep buying time against enforcement. Of the just and legitimate demands of the United Nations, the Security Council, the United States and our allies. Those are simply the facts.

Last but not least we have John Edwards, former Vice Presidential candidate. They just can't seem to get it right. What would they have done if they had been elected? Were they for or against..?

Should We Leave A Lawless Land ?

When we look at the fact that the people of Iraq are killing each other. The Sunnis and the Shihites, are behaving like rival gangs.One would come to the conclusion. If we left these people alone. They would self destruct without our help. Why are we in another land protecting other people from themselves? If we were to just, to pack up and leave. Do you actually think they would be satisfied with only killing themselves? That would only give them confidence. Consider the nature of the beast. If we sit back and watch their carnage of each other. What would prevent them from spreading to this country? It's not by accident. That we haven't experienced battle on American soil.

The streets of Baghdad resembled the Wild, Wild, West this past Sunday. Sunni Insurgents went through the streets rounding up Shihites. Blindfolding those detained, and shooting them. These atrocities were being performed, all in the name of Allah. What kind of God is that? Definitely not one who is fair and just. And surely not one we could trust. If we as Americans sit idly by while this happens. It's just a matter of time, before it hits home. Imagine riding along and being taken from your car at the stoplight. In this country that's against the law. We call it carjacking and murder. It matters not what a cleric says. For the sake of freedom that we enjoy here in America. To ensure it's future and preservation. We cannot afford to leave this lawless land.

Why Dave Why?

What would cause a young black comedian (Dave Chappelle), to walk away from probably the sweetest deal in T.V. history? For a Black xxx-rated comedian, for which he's famous. All the Redd Foxxs, Rudy Ray Moores and Richard Pryors, paved the way for comedians like him. Thirty years ago, there wouldn't have been a Dave Chappelle. I don't rightfully understand his logic, launching this all out attack on Christianity. But I must go along. He is a full grown, free man. It seems that every time we have someone in position to reach a lot of people. They squander the opportunity with their eccentricity. Actor "Denzel Washington" is the only Black media icon, or household name. I can think of off the top of my head. That hasn't prostituted his popularity for questionable political or religious causes. I applaud him for that conviction. I know it's not by chance. I'm sure he has been approached.

I'm sure Dave is rich, he told us he was. He won't be opening any doors for other brothers though. It fails to sink in with some of these characters. You can do more inside, than you can outside. Ask former late night television host Arsenio Hall. He went against his bosses regarding Louis Farakahn. He hasn't been on television since. He went from access to every household in America, to practically oblivion over night. Was it really worth the trouble? I don't think it was. The honorable minister is still grandstanding at the expense of others. Destroying resources and support, he can't possibly replace. Arsenio is taking a gig when ever he can get one. On award shows and the like. It would have had just as much effect, had the Nation had it's own forum. Why not just speak at the "Million Man March"? It would have caused much less of a backlash. They are going to make believers eventually, of people like Will Smith, Kanye West and Jamie Foxx to name a few. It's not worth the repercussions you're bound to face. Just to get something of your chest, or take one for the team. It's ironic one of Dave's most popular comedy skits has come to life. When keeping it real goes wrong. This is what happens.

It's All A Matter Of Choice

I was struggling to make some sense, of this brewing local issue. They may even be talking about it, in other places. It's message has a worldwide appeal. So I can imagine they are. The "Statue Of Liberation" was unveiled on Independence Day. It was generating conversation before then. I soon made up my mind, how I felt about the whole thing. But I wanted to share my views with others. See what other people had to say. We can say that it's WOCM's money, and leave it at that. Since that's the case. That would be the end. Most of those people complaining. Don't have a stake in the matter anyway. If you are not a member, not one thin dime of your money was spent. Or went toward the erecting of this statue. How do you tell someone, how to spend their money, if it's not affecting you? I can't help but think many of these gripes are fueled by jealousy. Personally I'm of the opinion. If it spurs conversation about God. As long as it's not blasphemy, it's a good thing.

A young lady who attends the church. Had this too say. "We as well as our pastor are highly favored. The church and all it's members, are abundantly blessed. We support the pastor's vision wholeheartedly". She also extended an invitation, to come and worship with them. To anyone within the sound of her voice.That sums up the whole thing, as far as I'm concerned. Most of these people complaining. Don't offer you anything. This isn't the only imposing religious symbol, in the Memphis area. There are two Buddha statues, and three highly visible crosses. That can be seen for miles around, at "Bellevue Baptist Church". They justify the three large crosses at "Bellvue Baptist" as being contributions. Well the statue is a contribution, to the community too. It just has several thousand donors. A man asked a question today that put it in perspective. At the time it was built the "Gold Strike Casino" was the tallest building, in the state of Mississippi. If you're like me, you didn't know that. I am aware of the push, to have the most elaborate casino. But we've just come to expect excess. The better to draw your money my friend. Have you ever heard someone complain, or even inquire? About how much money was spent, on anything in Tunica. Those who patronize the gambling halls don't care. I would bet $269,000, is just a drop in the bucket. If we start pointing out all the things, that could have been used for something else. The list would never end. Just like the statue symbolizes liberty, through God and his word. Like everything else, it's all a matter of choice.

All For Nought

In the past week, two household names have died unexpectedly. One of them of local recognition, and the other one a national figure. Yet they both seem, to have had lasting effects. On the lives of those many people, they came in contact with. Either directly or indirectly. It crossed my mind, that once you die. All you have left on this earth. Is what people have to say about you. That will be your legacy. Whether it be good or bad. That's how the world will remember you. I'm not speaking about having your business in order. That's a family matter, for the most part. No matter what you accumalate materially on this earth. When you die, it doesn't matter anyway. They were both successful men, in their own right. But I'm sure you would hear contrasting testimonies, about what they have done. Regardless of what effect, they have had in the many peoples lives. One will be remembered for what he gave others, the other for what he took away. What matters most, is what they did for God. People can say what they will, they could be wrong. If it wasn't done for God, it was all for nought.

Come Get Me Mother

People die everyday, it's a fact of life. So much so, that we have become indifferent to a degree. Sometimes we lose something or someone, that makes a noticeable dent. From that point on, life is somehow different. Something such as this happened about 9pm Saturday night. Life will be different from 2 to 6 pm Monday thru Friday. And from 8 to 12 on Saturday mornings. We lost a legend in local radio, "Preston Moore" aka "Jaye Micheal Davis". He was killed in a motorcycle accident. He was pronounced dead on the scene. His wife Lisa Moore was injured also. She survived, but is in critical condition. We will keep her in our prayers. As someone who calls the different radio talk shows. I have had the pleasure of talking with Jaye. I can say on several different occasions. Jaye has sided with me, in spite of his co-host and other callers. I can truly say "Jaye" was a man, among Disc Jockeys. He always carried himself as a Man. Even when we disagreed, we parted as men. He truly would respectfully agree, to disagree. He never said or did anything, where he should later be ashamed. He was the only person I knew, that had his own opinion. And stuck to his guns. In spite of what popular public opinion was. That somehow, didn't offend anyone. He was the only radio personality I conversed with. That didn't have an issue with their ego. Unlike everybody else on the radio, he didn't argue the point. That's not necessarily a bad thing. For those people that will. That's just one characteristic he didn't have. He signed off for the last time Saturday morning, with his usual last words. "Come get me mother" a saying he made famous. I can only hope Jaye's behavior was an extension of his faith. I don't know if he was saved or not, but I pray he was. I would like to change his last words a little, for this one occasion. "Come get him Father". He has crossed the finish line.

Stanley Tookie Williams, Targeted The Wrong Audience

I have been looking at the various stories on the web surrounding Stanley Tookie Williams' funeral. I don't know if I haven't been paying close enough attention. But I seem to have missed the media coverage. Reading all the stories on the internet. Have rehashed some old thoughts I had, that seem to have gotten lost in the various arguments. I felt like this defense if possible, would've had more steam. This train of thought is driven by some other issues that were raised, in the numerous appeals.

One of the major reasons given for his clemency, is his writing skills. He is said to have a profound effect on young people. The books he has written since his transformation in prison. Are said to be very effective according to his supporters. I haven't read the books myself, so I can't comment on how good they are. Many say these are no more than footnotes. Not really real books requiring any real effort. How much effort does it take to write a childrens book? If indeed he possessed the gift of gab, and charisma necessary to start the Crips. He should be able to address his message to a broader audience. Like the gangmembers themselves. Even as witnessed after his death. He seems to still have the ear, and respect of a lot of gangmembers, and people on the street.

I think "Tookie" was a Crip until the end. There was much more he could have done, to really combat gangs. Look at his actions in the last hours. I think his final request were meant to send a message. He wanted to go out as a soldier,not perceived as a snitch. If he really wanted to make a difference, he should've talked to the ones in the life. According to officials his involvement with gangmembers behind bars, was less than commendable. He seems to have maintained his officer status even as an inmate. If we straightened out the adults, there wouldn't be a need to redirect the children.

In the stories I've read so far, those most influenced are adults. Over 1,500 people attended his funeral, a large number of them gangmembers.Throwing up handsigns representing, gangbanging as we speak. If he really wanted to make an impact. Tookie should have written a book telling them. If you really want to be smart, you need to leave this lifestyle behind. I made it to the top, and look where it got me. It only leads two places, dead or in jail. As we see in my case, sometimes both.
