It's Still Wet

In his first state of the union address the president did what he does best. Barack Obama gave a good speech filled with sweeping promises and good vibrations. He has proven to be particularly adept at that already. I saw hints of what seemed like moments in a Hollywood movie but that's politics these days. You can't get elected if you don't look good in front of the camera.

I have some idea of what this administration is trying to accomplish. I still don't agree though. How do you have a ten year plan for a four year term? It still hasn't been explained how you can spend your way out of debt. Fox political analyst Britt Hume saw it the same way I did. The president is doing an awful lot of gambling. The proposals though not clearly defined are ambitious to say the least. The foundation that is being laid for the future might have too much sand in the mix. Let's hope it doesn't start to rain. We might end up with loads of concrete on our hands.

Better Late Than Never

I always say "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." I wish Harold Collins and Janis Fullilove had the foresight to vote on behalf of the citizens of Memphis in the beginning instead of being participants in a racial coup staged by black city council members. Now they are both suffering the wrath of some disgruntled constituents as a result of their initial actions.

Councilman Collins is taking the majority of the heat on this one. Councilwoman Janis Fullilove has been relatively quiet since casting her controversial vote. She might try and ride this thing out and hope the voters do like they usually do and forget. I wasn't as surprised at her siding with the others in the beginning as I was Mr. Collins. She has a history of second chances with her supporters. So "When you're living in a glass house, don't throw no stones."

In my opinion this whole thing is about six to eight weeks too late. My main concern has always been police protection. If we can't find them here we need to go elsewhere. We didn't need an ad-hoc committee to analyze the situation. I made this same suggestion when the issue first came up. Even though it's been delayed somewhat. It's better late than never.

Is This Racist

This cartoon may qualify if anything as being tacky more so than racist. You have to use your imagination a bit to come up with this being racist though. You have to consider some stereotypes that some people don't even know about. But those that do can see why one might come to this far fetched conclusion.Whoever posted this cartoon had to know somebody was going to get upset. If that's what they were looking for they weren't disappointed. True to form the pied piper "Al Sharpton" is blowing his horn. His brand of protest has taken a severe blow lately. It's kind of hard to cry racism when the president of the United States is black. I know some may consider this cartoon offensive; but is this racist?

In Every Rumor There's A Grain Of Truth

I haxe been hesitant to say anything about the Chris Brown and Rhianna incident, but it seems it has running shoes of it's own. I won't say which of these rummors I believe, but it's on the list. This isn't the end of this story by a long shot. Watch how this thing plays out.

The Pop Ten: Top Rumors About Rihanna and Chris Brown
PopEater
posted: 3 DAYS 2 HOURS AGOcomments: 2filed under: Gut Reactions, Music News, Pop Ten ListPrintShareText SizeAAA(Feb. 11) - Since Chris Brown turned himself in to the LAPD for an alleged assault against his girlfriend Rihanna, rumors have been flying around the Internet at breakneck speed. Some of them have been outlandish, some of them fairly believable. We don't pretend to know what happened between the two, but we're having trouble keeping track of the public's various theories. Here are the Top Ten Rumors About Rihanna and Chris Brown, whether or not you (or we) believe them.

10. Chris Brown used a deadly weapon in the assault - early reports suggested that Brown was being charged with "assault with a deadly weapon." This was proven false shortly after those rumors surfaced.

9. Rihanna was snooping in Brown's cell phone - interestingly it appears that Brown's camp put this out there. According to Bossip, Brown's people say that Rihanna spied the caller ID when a particular lady called, "went ballistic," and began beating Brown - who then struck Rihanna in self defense.

8. Leona Lewis was the cause of the fight - Star says, "At one point, Rihanna caught Chris flirting with Leona. They were carrying on and laughing, and Rihanna saw Chris with his hand on the small of Leona's back. It may have been innocent, but that set Rihanna off."

7. Photos of Rihanna have hit the web - TMZ shows that the alleged crime photos are just Photoshopped touchups of Rihanna in perfect shape.

6. Chris Brown bit Rihanna in various parts of her body - though photos of Rihanna after the attack are not available, some reports claim that Rihanna was bitten repeatedly.

5. Rihanna gave Chris Brown herpes - that she got from Jay-Z - reports of this rumor have made their way quickly around the web, though as Gawker points out... exactly why would this come up the night of the Grammys? Did the symptoms appear in the car on the ride over?

4. Paris Hilton was the cause of the fight - a witness told OK!, "He and Paris went outside together. Paris was all over him."

3. Rihanna and Brown are already back together - In Touch Weekly says a source confirmed the reunion, and the two are hiding out together.

2. This is not the first time Brown has hit Rihanna - Us Magazine reports that friends of Rihanna say the singer had neck bruises as far back as December. "I asked if everything was OK with her and Chris," says the source. "She told me, 'We broke up again.' I didn't pursue the issue further."

1. Rihanna might require reconstructive surgery - British paper the Sun suggests that Rihanna might need plastic surgery to repair the damage from her injuries.

Somebody Really Is Listening

"What's done in the dark comes to the light." When you do your dirt you never know who's watching.Another longtime black city employee has put their good job in jeopardy trying to get even with their white bosses. In case people have already forgotten what this is like. Remember City Court Clerk employee Sandra Becton suffered the same fate last year when she tried to disparage her opponents character. Who also happened to be her white boss. The other day police Lt. Sandra Palmer was named as a leak within the MPD, after a lengthy investigation. We might also be looking at criminal charges She has admitted herself to Lakeside Psychiatric Hospital, but as soon as she gets out she'll lose her job.

You would think both of these people would have been smarter than to fall for the okey doke, but obviously they weren't that sharp. They both got involved with a local shock jock (Thaddeus Matthews) and gambled away any credibility they might have had at that point. The mention of his name lowers the level of legitimacy of whatever It is in the minds of some people. The red flags pop up all over the place. It's an uphill battle convincing those people after that. I know because I'm one of those people.

Thaddeus would have you believe that everybody is listening to his radio show. To a degree that might almost be true. He brags about the number of people that listen to his show and how many hits he gets on his blog, The question is how many of them are supporters or even believe what he says. All publicity is not good publicity. Ask his buddy Jennings Bernard. http://indepcons.blogspot.com/2006/03/all-publicity-is-not-good-publicity.html He thinks he doesn't need those that don't agree with him but really he does . Since all he really runs is his show. Those who listen to him better get comfortable. That's as far as most of his causes are going to go. For those that don't. Somebody really is listening.

It's Called Character

Finally we have someone in politics who seems to stand for something for all intents and purposes. Sen. Judd Gregg R-NH didn't get caught up in the mass hysteria and lay his pronciples aside. He possibly passed up the oppurtunity to be one of the most influential Republicans on the hill. Not only did he have the chance to be one of only three Republicans in this cabinet. Also he is the one vote in the Senare that keeps Democrats from having that magic nunber.

This could be a politically savy move on Sen. Gregg's part though. He has gone from being a virtually unknown to a sought out Republican voice on economic issues. I am glad he did what he did when he did. Unlike even the newly elected head of the RNC Michael Steele. He exhibited somethiing that's visibly absent from many of our elected officials these days. It's called character

Stimulus Or Sedation

I didn't support Barack Obama in the last election, but I support his presidency. Unlike some other Conservatives, I'm not hoping that his plans don't work out. Success is what I wish for whoever is at the helm. I prayed to God and asked that his will be done and Barack Obama was elected the 44th Commander-in-Chief. I still didn't drink the Kool-Aid, but I haven''t been as put off as I expected. To the contrary I've been partially inspired. God has given consolation to people like myself. The president has turned out to be somewhat of a moderate at the least. He hasn't been allowed to be as leftist on some issues as he would like. Including his dispersing of this $800 billion bailout.

I think I have some idea of what he is trying to accomplish. He seems to be focusing on the unemployed workers. The lions share of this money is aimed at community redevelopment and government funded projets. I keep getting visions of a more expensive modernized version of the seventies CETA program. Which did little if anything to create any sustainable jobs. I know people will be working for the next four years at least. That will be long enough to pacify the economy and secure those votes for the next election. It's going to take a while to see if this works, Is this package stimulus or sedation?

Another One Bites The Dust

It's not looking to good for President Obama's cabinet picks these days. Their appointments have the life expectancy of a background check. Just the other day two people that figured prominently on his long awaited transition team withdrew their names. Change is beginning to look like a lot more of the same.

Bill Richardson was the first Obama casualty. Barack Obama was indebted to him for delivering the Hispanic vote. That in addition to record turnouts by blacks was instrumental in Barack Obama's win. The president hasn't turned his back on Hispanics completely. He still has several Hispanic supporters in key positions. They just aren't his main priority right now. Homosexuals and Muslims seem to be at the top of the list. Bill Richardson had higher aspirations at first. He wanted to be the POTUS. A king can't surround himself with other kings.

She wasn't a cabinet pick, but I think Valarie Jarrett's story is just as intriguing. I think she qualifies as an Obama casualty. Quiet as it's kept. She may have been the next black, female Senator from Illinois had it not been for the Rod Blagojevich scandal. Honestly, if there had to be a favor paid back. I wish it was this one. If fund raising was a factor to be considered. She had at least as much right to the post as Caroline Kennedy did. She helped Barack Obama raise $660 million, $20 at a time. It's people like her that's responsible for our first black Commander-in-Chief. I always say "stay with who came with you to the dance." I admire loyalty wherever it arises.

All I know about Nancy Killefer is she is juggling her bills just like everybody else. I don't know anything else about her and obviously I won't. She withdrew her name before anything else could be uncovered. Based on the outcome of some of these nominees. That might not be such a bad idea. I don't want to go on a witch hunt disqualifying everyone that's behind on their property taxes. It now appears Hilda Solis has tax issues too. Uncle Sam seems to be the man in charge right now. I'm all in favor of catching crooks, but let's not create an unrealistic level of expectation. At this rate the only one that will qualify is a priest.

Tom Daschle is another story though. He joins the ranks of Ron Isley and Wesley Snipes to name a few. When you owe hundreds of thousands, if not millions of dollars in unpaid taxes. It's not a mistake but an orchestrated effort. This is probably just the tip of the iceberg with him. Tom Daschle served as a Senator for eighteen years. He didn't just start cheating last week. He was ready to take his hustle to the next level. Can you imagine the power he would have had as Secretary of Health and Human Development.

The president said the other day that "he had messed up." More people are dropping out and being held up than are being confirmed. I don't think this is the last time we'll be saying "another one bites the dust."

Pittsburgh 2008 NFL Champions

The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Arizona Cardinals in a nailbiter 23-20. It undoubtedly was meant to be since it was decided by a miraculous catch by the MVP Santonio Holmes. If this wasn't the most exciting Superbowl I've ever seen. It's in the top two or three.
