Is Winning Not Enough
Former Cleveland Cavalier coach Mike Brown is probably wondering what just happened. How can you be the winningest coach in the NBA http://nba.fanhouse.com/2010/05/24/cleveland-coach-mike-brown-fired/(61-21)and get fired? It probably has something to do with having Lebron James and not winning a championship. Is winning not enough?

Family Business
One would wonder why a able bodied, intelligent young man would take a job as a police in a sometimes dangerous small town. More officers have been killed in West Memphis than it has in it's sister city who is 10 times larger. Yet these small town officers get as much action as NYPD. The answer is the I-40 corridor. It's the causeway to the west. Everything and everybody comes through there. Unfortunately this time it was a killer and his son.
Otherwise it's a pretty cushy job with the potential for great rewards. Especially in the Crime Interdiction Unit. Where both the slain officers worked. The operating budget is based on it's property seizures and arrests. Not so shabby when you consider they have made some of the largest seizures in history. Preachers, politicians and police always want more money, but you can generally expect to see a second generation. That's why it's a family business.

Take No Prisoners
My solutions to avoiding gunshots are still the same regardless what color the suspects are. My previous advice would've worked just as well for the two men who were killed today. I say the same thing I said when young Deaunta Farrow was killed by West Memphis police two years ago. http://indepcons.blogspot.com/2008/04/halt-means-stop.html The circumstances may have been different but the end result is still the same. Somebody lost their life.
This was like an action adventure movie. They showed the police officers in hot pursuit and everything. http://www.wreg.com/news/wreg-west-memphis-shot,0,192061.story It was like actually being there In the midst of the bullets. The picture says it all. That's one of the dead shooters lying there in handcuffs. If you mess up in West Memphis. It might just be the last time. They take no prisoners.

Get It Right
In his absence I have become a bigger fan of his than I was before. Not because of him, but his longtime fiancee Tiny. I think she is his better half even though they aren't married. When asked if there were plans for marriage. I notice T.I. avoided commitment. I predict more trouble for him in the future if he doesn't marry her. He has a chance to get on the right track. I hope he will get it right.

The Whole Story
I knew it was just a matter of time before other businesses on Beale spoke out about this. Today John Elkington of Performa Real Estate spoke up and Plush Club landlord George Miller had no comment. I don't understand why they wouldn't be together on this. I'll be listening to see how this thing turns out. Though I don't think we'll get the whole story http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2010/may/13/owner-seeks-court-order-close-beale-streets-plush-/

Ford On The Fifth
After looking at the numbers in last week's primary, I'm not so sure Mark Luttrell is a sure thing in the county mayor's race after all. Unlike the national trend sweeping the nation. Shelby county is still a Democratic stronghold. Mark Luttrell, for reasons of practical politics and personal philosophy, resists being drawn in to discussions of parties or demographics. Seeing Ford draw 20,360 of the 35,554 votes cast in the Democratic primary. While Luttrell got 28,538 of the 29,415 Republican votes is reason for concern. Even with a turnout of only 10%, Democrats still had the biggest share.
With his uninspired speeches and lack of a platform Joe Ford proved that the citizens don't require a long list of credits. Mark Luttrell having $152,000 in his campaign chest would be overwhelming to most other candidates, but not Joe Ford.
You can't buy his name recognition. Even though it's not all good. His family has a history dating back almost forty years. All things considered. It might be Ford on the fifth.

Ferguson Is A Mover And A Shaker
Ben Ferguson is a station managers dream. That success is what I dislike about him though. Over half his show is taken up with commercials. Between Ben overtalking the callers and commercials you don't have to monitor much of what he says. He hosts a caller driven show. Ben said he no longer wanted to constantly be dealing with contract negotiations. The only way he can do that is by having his salary depend on the station's profits. The station went from collecting $3000 a wk. to paying an undisclosed amount. Ferguson is a mover and shaker.

All Things In Time
If Thaddeus had been willing to listen. I could have told him it would eventually happen.Though he supposedly paid big money for his slot. He was still on borrowed time. It might take a while, but all things come in time.
