Moral Absolutes Are Missing

In all fairnes these protestors seem to be predominately children and young black men following the crowd. So we can't hang this ignorance solely on the black community as a whole. But there was also some white people and full grown women more than likely who were also mothers in the crowd. It brings to mind the story in the bible where the Jews chose Barrabus over Jesus. This behavior has more to do with right and wrong than the oppression of a particular race. Their disdain for the police and any kind of authority justifies anything they do. Moral absolutes are missing.

He Won't Leave

You couldn't pry Coach Calipari away from Memphis with a crowbar. The fans in this city, myself included, have settled for a different type of winning than those other schools in the hunt for a new basketball coach. Memphians have become content with the hotshot player stopping by for a year on the way to the NBA.

Contrary to what athletic director R.C. Johnson would have you think. We don't have to try to outbid any of the other schools. He is such a cheerleader he must be getting a kickback. He has to be one of John Calipari's biggest fans. Let's just see if anybody comes up with the juice (money) to make Calipari leave the Tiger program. Don't believe the hype.He undoubtedly has one of the sweetest deals already of any college basketball coach in America.

Does Barack Obama Hate White People

I'm still waiting on the Jonas Brothers to come out like Kanye West did after hurricane Katrina and say "President Obama doesn't like white people." The people of Fargo, North Dakota are saving their town with elbows and sandbags and not waiting on FEMA. The president hasn't been there yet. Does Barack Obama hate white people?

Lil Rounds Didn't Do Enough

For someone who could sing the telephone book; why did she pick the x-section of the book? I think the Motown segment was an area where Lil Rounds should have shined but didn't. She probably won't go home this week but at this rate it won't be long.

He Is In High Cotton

A couple of weeks ago I heard Jay Bailey say something that rang truer than anything I had ever heard him say before. He said " I make $250,000 a yr. and white men like you are intimidated by young black men like myself." I am the last to go along with the idea that " he needs to be taken down a button hole or two. He's smelling himself" Usually what they really would like to say is that negro (nigger). I have no reason to doubt his claim, it is entirely possible. But he should have rose above the petty exchange of insults with whom he was talking with After listening to his brash comments to someone who probably was guilty of most of the things he said. A lesson in humility may be in order in this case.

I have always given Atty. Javier Bailey credit for being a smart though not very wise individual. He has spent an inordinate amount of time IMO defending himself against things he shouldn't be involved with to begin with. Things like drug addictions, misappropriation of client funds and having his law license suspended and/or being on probation.Click on the link and read my earlier blog about him : http://indepcons.blogspot.com/2007/11/ambulance-chaser-esq.html Today I heard him in a much less confrontational tone after yet another defeat . In his run for the chairman of the local Democratic party. He has finally run into some other lawyers ands politically astute delegates who are directly involved. They won't be as easily impressed as his usual band of less informed followers who don't care how you're paid just as long as you are. Big words and appeals won't work this time. He is in high cotton.

He Is A Comedian Not Cupid

Before he wrote a book he was just a funny guy who made a good living telling jokes. With a couple of television appearances and book signings under his belt. He has become the latest Dr.Phil or Ruth. I guess shaving his head and taking off his shirt on camera makes him an expert on relationships. If I remember correctly he just got a divorce from his longtime wife. Talk show hosts Oprah Winfrey and Tyra Banks have christened him the pied piper of romance. Though neither of them have a sustaining relationship themselves other than their bank accounts. Which if truth be known, is the most coveted relationship anyway. Notice how Steve Harvey's opinion on these matters suddenly became a lot more important since he became free and single? No one was checking to see what Mr. Hightower had to say.

I'm sure Mr. Harvey is enjoying all this new found standing. So I don't expect him to not milk this for all it's worth. He won't admit it, but he has been working out already I bet. People always look for security in numbers. They think because a lot of people agree with them they're right. For anyone who might have temporarily forgotten. He is a comedian not cupid.

Will He Soon Be Leaving

Is this acceptable to the producers of American Idol, 19 Entertainment and Fox ? When we look back at former contestant Frenchie Davis having been disqualified for actions unbecoming of an American Idol on camera. Will this ease under their watchful eye?

Live Up To His Name

I don't totally disagree with what Rush Limbaugh said about new RNC charmain Michael Steele. "Why do you claim you lead the Republican Party when you seem obsessed with seeing to it that President Obama succeeds?" he said. "...If I were chairman of the Republican Party, given the state that it's in, I would quit." (Rush Limbaugh)

Notice I said totally disagree with what he said. I think asking him to quit is a bit extreme. I like the way I heard a woman put it the other day, "he needs to get his mind right." He does need to get back to the partner he came to the dance with. One who has an unwavering position on certain issues. Reaching out to the hip hop generation and putting same-sex marriage on the back burner isn't what made him popular. What Mr. Steele needs to do is live up to his name.

For The Record

I didn't talk about this record breaking contract signing when it happened last year. But I remember it like it was yesterday. It brings to mind a heartwarming story about a man with alzheimers smiling when his son read him the newstory.Blacks hate Conservatives so bad they just say anythng that comes to mind and nobody calls their hand.

I don't know whether this guy really beleives the things he says or just says things to cause a stir. Local radio personality Bobby Ojay said Rush Limbaugh doesn't have that many listeners. Then he went on to explain that he probably won't get the whole 400 million dollars. He probably didn't think about the fact that they work for the same company. Read the article below.

Clear Channel, Limbaugh Ink $400 Million New Contract Article

more in Deals »By SARAH MCBRIDE
Conservative radio talk-show host Rush Limbaugh Wednesday inked an eight-year contract for around $400 million, underscoring how radio is spending big sums on bankable talent to compete in the crowded entertainment field.

Mr. Limbaugh's compensation of $38 million a year, plus a signing bonus of about $100 million is less in absolute terms than the five-year, $500 million contract Howard Stern cut in 2004 with Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. But Mr. Limbaugh's contract could net him more, as Mr. Stern must pay costs for his cast and production.

It's a big jump from Mr. Limbaugh's last contract, which at $285 million was a record for a radio personality when he signed it in 2001. Since then, the weekly audience for his three-hour midday show has held steady at about 20 million listeners, according to his syndicator, Clear Channel Communications Inc.'s Premiere Radio Networks. But advertisers are increasingly anxious to reach that audience.

Mr. Limbaugh's show is the nation's most-listened-to, followed by fellow conservative Sean Hannity's show, distributed by ABC Radio Networks, a division of Citadel Broadcasting Corp. Premiere is in advanced talks with Mr. Hannity to try to woo him away for a sum in the $200 million range over eight years, a person familiar with the situation said. Representatives for Mr. Hannity didn't respond to requests for comment. A spokeswoman for Premiere declined to comment.

On Wednesday's show, Mr. Limbaugh, 57 years old, said he was "ecstatic" about the deal.

As radio fights for market share in a fragmented entertainment market, its national stars are becoming increasingly valuable. Ryan Seacrest, whose radio shows are also syndicated by Premiere, recently made a deal where he owns and controls a portion of the advertising on one of his shows.

Radio reaches about 93% of the population each week, according to Arbitron Inc., with listeners tuning in an average of about 18.5 hours. That is a decline from just over 22 hours per week 10 years ago. Radio advertising, including on radio Internet sites, totaled $21.3 billion last year, down from $21.7 billion the year before.

Mr. Limbaugh's fans are fiercely loyal to the host and very responsive to his show's advertisers, media buyers say. "He is a proven commodity," says Mark Lefkowitz, executive vice president and media director at Furman Roth Advertising Inc.

Mr. Limbaugh's show also delivers revenue through ancillary businesses such as his "24/7" club that costs about $60 a year. Those businesses have grown substantially, a person familiar with the show said. For example, "24/7" members can watch video of the show live online and tap into a growing number of Internet-based frills.

The Gatekeeper

Is Tavis Smiley the modern version of the gatekeeper of old? The powers that be have always had a man on the inside to serve as spokesman for both sides. Problem is at some point the spokesmen usually become self serving and the sincerity gets lost. Honesty and integrity always matter, but whose going to turn down that big payday when that's really what it's about? I can't say I blame him. For the last ten years that's what has kept Tavis Smiley's name in the media. From all indications nothing seems to have changed. Soon after the meeting was over, it started all over again. What else is Tavis known for? It's been a journalists dream come true. The story that just keeps running.

I don't hold Mr. Smiley personally responsible for the plight of the black community, but he does have the stage. Is he merely the master of ceremonies for an annual meeting of blacks in influential positions. To take their turn giving rehearsed speeches and promoting their latest books, or is he truly a vehicle for change? History has supported the latter. I must honestly admit I haven't heard the entire six hour meeting. I've heard enough to make this statement though. "It sounds like a lot more of the same." I don't blame Mr. Smiley and his regular panel. I'm sure they appreciate the gratuities they receive. Some of them have been there since the beginning as well. With that same covenant with black America that has yet to be filled. With guess who guarding the gate?
