Singing Hallelujah

To some of us this is somewhat vindication for the estrangement Conservative blacks have experienced. This is like a victory of sorts for people like myself. To see someone who I have been an outspoken advocate for in the past, get their just due is a breath of fresh air. Michael Steele has been elected as the first black president of the RNC. He is a rock in the midst of sponges. I know his selection won't be embraced like that of Barack Obama. but it should. This is yet another perceived barrier broken down. Since we're in a celebration mode anyway. Blacks should be dancing in the street and singing hallelujah.

I Would Rather Have Casinos

The Honeymoon appears to be over already for some who drank the Obams Kool-aid. I was listening last night to MSNBC's Chris Matthews and Keith Olberman and I noticed a surprising switch in their attitudes. Matthews once made the girlyman comment that "Barack Obama caused him to get a tingling up his leg." I hadn't listened to him much since he made that comment. All of a sudden those star gazed commentators who in the past overlooked his shortcomings before he was elected. Have now become critical of President Obama unlike in the past. I had to do a double take to make sure I wasn't dreaming. Fortunately for me,it was real.

What many consider to be a sign of weakness, may actually be a calculated move. I think it all probably started with the president's denouncing of Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh. It was questionably the most empowering diss in the entire free world. He may quietly be hoping Rush will do for him what he did for Bill Clinton. Make him immensely popular to both parties. All those people who weren't listening to Rushbo before Obama's rant, are listening to him now. The thirty million that listen to him daily, just increased to thirty-five, forty million or more. Those talkshow hosts who have been kissing Obama's butt for the last two years must feel betrayed by his actions. He basically crowned Rush Limbaugh the reigning talk show king. Just like with many of his cabinet selections. He picked an old familiar face.

One of Keith Olbeman's guest, who was obviously a Conservative, started me to thinking. Take the lemons of life and make lemonade. Since people obviously don't want to hear cold, hard facts. Take a different approach. Instead of being in an attack mode;why not make it a joke? As the casualty list of dejected Obama supporters grows and they will. Be the bridge that allows them to come back to their senses. Before it's all over they might be saying like the title of his new book. "I would rather have casinos."

Where's My Monkey

After all the disrespect and loudmouth outbursts exhibited by Joy Behar on the "View" during the presidential election. She must feel pretty low right about now. Barack Obama hasn't been in office two weeks yet, but the mob has already turned on her. The same crowd that was applauding SNL while they poked fun at Gov. Sarah Palin. Have put on a much less flattering skit aimed at her and her other co-hosts on the "View".

She tried to appear undaunted by the satire, but obviously she was hurt. Larry King did the best he could to make it less awkward, but it didn't work. She told a story about how in the old days rich Mexican women would walk around with a monkey on their shoulder to make them appear prettier in comparison. In the skit her and Whoppi Goldberg's character was played by a man. As she nervously watched. She must have been wondering. Where's my monkey?

How do you rate President Bush?

I have always said history will be kinder to George Bush than popularity polls are right now. According to the results of this poll. History is starting to unfold as we speak.

This Looks Like A Setup

People don't just show up and rob places they've never been before. They've either been there before or cased the target out. So I don't think this guy just walked in off the street and robbed this Lemoyne Owen college classroom at random. Even though the school is located in one of the worst parts of town. Even they aren't that wide open with crime. When they get to the bottom of this incident. Either the robber is or was a student himself or another student set this whole thing up.

What If They Take You Serious

Sticking out your chest and making empty threats just isn't worth it these days. Especially if you aren't prepared to back it up with action. Some seem to think Demarrius Stevenson not having a weapon bids well in his favor from a civil standpoint. In this case being unarmed wasn't very smart. You could end up paying with your life. All the meetings and settlements in the world won't bring Demarrius Stevenson back.I'm sure he thought it was just another day on the corner of Brown and Watkins. The victim and the shooter were acquaintances. Testimony was given stating that the victim went in the trunk of his car. He probably wasn't going to do anything, but we only need to look as far back as a couple of weeks. A store owner was killed and his family barely escaped. I'm sure this didn't even cross his mind. What if they take you serious?

Another Unarmed Man Shot

But that doesn't mean he is totally blameless. That's the problem with a lot of these shootings. The victims were in violation too. Same old soup reheated. http://indepcons.blogspot.com/2008/10/halt-means-stop.html

Joe Brown Needs To Sit Dowm

"If you play with a puppy he'll lick you in the mouth." That's what I always say about these people hanging out with these shady characters. I don't care much for Joe Brown's politics, but I think he's tried and true. At least you know where he's coming from. He never really does anything unexpected. In his radio interview he said a lot, while still saying nothing. He has gotten good at that. He has been in office doing just that for the last ten years. I hoped he wouldn't put himself out there like that, but since he did. I'll make my comment.

I'm sure he's having second thoughts about his untimely outburst now. I don't know what they expected him to do about the unfortunate shooting that took place. Considering the good it will do, I think Joe Brown did a good job on such short notice. He got HCD Director Robert Lipscomb and all the council members (Brown, Fullilove,Swearengen-Ware) in that area. He got Sheriff Mark Luttrell and Larry Godwin the chief of police. All to commit to a meeting at a community center in North Memphis in the evening. Who better to discuss empowerment and crime? A Town Hall meeting will do little if anything to change prevailing conditions in that area. With all due respect. Joe Brown needs to sit down.

Coulter Cut

This is all a matter of opinion but I tend to agree with Ann Coulter on this one. This was simply a move by the liberal media (NBC) to limit the exposure she'll receive for her new book. Now that Barack Obama has won the presidential race. Outright disregard of the rights of Conservatives are going to become commonplace. The media can always cover their tracks by blaming their actions on what's happening in Israel. They have a built in audience. All the Hollywood big wigs are Jewish.

I Can Only Do So Much

Not only did Hillary Clinton think she had a better plan for the country, but obviously Barack Obama did too. At the rate things are going, everybody might just find out if she did. He also seemed to agree with George Bush more than voters originally thought. I find it quite interesting that this administration and the proposals on the table look awfully familiar. Like the much anticipated stimulus package is just Bush's tax cuts revamped. Seven nominated members of Obama's cabinet are either former Hillary Clinton supporters or holdovers from the Bill Clinton administration. As for the war in Iraq, now no changes are expected.

The ones coming up short are the Barack Obama loyalists like Susan Rice and Valerie Plummer. Neither of them got that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow they were expecting. He seems to be more concerned with building new alliances than honoring old ones. I don't share the same urgency that some of those who don't support Obama seem to be feeling. I think they're giving him too much power. A picture is worth a thousand words. I feel like Barack Obama looks on this picture. He must be saying to himself, " I can only do so much."

FYI

Memphis ended 2008 with homicides increasing slightly over 2007. The city recorded 168 homicides in 2008, compared with 164 in 2007. Of the 2008 homicides, 22 were ruled justified, compared with 32 in 2007.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Office investigated five homicides in 2008, compared with six in 2007. One homicide each year was ruled justified.
