In Our Mist

Memphis is on every negative list that comes out. We are the dumbest, fattest and most financially unstable city in America. But even the forever pessimistic Bobby OJay didn t see this. People all over the country are looking less than twenty miles from here. Germantown is a jewel in our mist.

Too Far

When I see this picture and find out who it is, I'm not surprised. The apple doesn't  fall far from the tree. Her parents are Bruce Willis and Demi Moore. Remember the provocative pregnancy pose by Demi? Last week it was Willow Smith, daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett. Taking pictures in the bed with a partially clothed full grown man. Before that it was Kylie Jenner in a sheer top without a bra. But Scout Willis went too far.

Straight

My zeal for the NBA in Memphis has been restored somewhat.  I hope my enthusiasm isn't premature though. I think the breakdown started with not rehiring Lionel Hollins as head coach. But even he thinks it started before then with trading Rudy Gay. I can't help but think the thoughts and opinions of people like myself finally reached Robert Pera.  In the back of my mind there is more than meets the eye here. I would love to have heard some of the private conversations between Robert Pera and Jason Levien. I bet the paint on the walls would peel. Would Robert Pera be in jeopardy of losing his team?

I think Jason Levien has an idea that could actually work in the right market.  Not in a majority black city. And not a team with minority owners and a large minority fan bare. Limited success doesn't help either. Right now no team is that bad. This sales pitch worked in three different cities. Memphis,Philadelphia and Sacramento. I think Levien wants to build a low-cost, money making, totally efficient team. One that can beat any team in the league on any given night That scenario looks good on paper. But with the new collective bargaining agreement. It keeps the cheap owners straight.

Time Doing Him

Jail either makes you or breaks you. But based on this photo obviously Chris Brown isn't doing too well. It could have gone either way. He could have gone to jail and found it wasn't so hard. Came out looking like "Ja Rule"on swole. Who obviously spent much of his time behind bars pumping iron.

But Chris Brown isn't doing so well. He looks more like "Slick  Rick" than a hot young rapper. Instead of waking up looking at Kuruche Tran or Rhi Rhi. He is bunking with the homies. I  wonder does he still have his sneakers?  Thrat's usually the first thing the other inmates take. Is he doing time, or is time doing him?

Conflict

One's perception is their reality. In  the words of the Chaka Kahn tune "what you feel is real." I don't  agree with Commissioner Brooks most of the time. But when you hear her comments you have to consider the source. Henri Brooks is a sixty-five year old  career politician who needs controversy to remain relevant. She can't afford to take her fist down/.It's her bread and butter. She has never really had another.job in her life

Voters in Memphis like a fighter. Even if they never win a bout. We deal with the same mindset on the Memphis City Council on every issue. Especially one council member in particular.  They say things like this  everyday.  Just no one calls them out. Race baiting is third on their list of priorities. But lately the struggle has been updated. Now it's homosexuals and employee unions. Politicians are hiding behind the wall of pc protection. No one  with political aspirations would dare go after either of them  But look at the age of her supporters.  It looks like an AARP convention. Henri Brooks is a senior soldier in an age old conflict.

Different Drum

The United States must be giving  these people money. Because this isn't the first time we felt the need to get involved. But this country's beliefs are not for sale. This country doesn't have the best record for human rights.  They march to the beat of a different drum.

Snake

Donald Sterling was trying to make sure he wasn"t fattening no frogs for snakes. She said "Magic Johnson" did a lot for his community. But  what has "Bishop Don Magic Juan" done? This is a snake.

Get That Money

After listening to the V. Stiviano interview with Barbara Walters. I have a better perspective of her and Donald Sterling's relationship. This isn't the first arrangement like this for either of them. Mr. Sterling has a history with personal assistants. This woman might not even be sleeping with him. But she knows how  to get  that money.

Strike

Adam Silver saved not only the league millions if not billions of dollars, but also the black players money, pride, and face. Not to mention ridicule and isolation for those who didn't participate. Nobody needed a boycott during the playoffs. Don't let people like Roland Martin and Steven Smith blow this out of proportion. All they do is talk for a living. They don't play anything anyway.

There were going  to be holdouts with good reason. Lebron James and Chris Paul can afford to be hotheaded.and make an abrupt decision. They make  $17 million a year. But what about the black players making the minimum? There are quite a few. Then you add the people selling tickets and the concession and event staff  They can't afford a strike.
